At the two venues dedicated to the Fellini Week, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts on Volkhonka and the Gallery on Solyanka, you will see many variations on Federico Fellini’s favorite erotomaniac scenes. Reminiscent of the mountain landscape of the Apennines (majestic, but soft and plastic), belladonna impudently lies across the entire expanse of the white sheet. And a naked man is fussing about her butt or breasts of extraordinary size. Compared to the lying beauty, he is a boy. The phallus weapon is clutched in his hand and is bravely storming the serene grandiose “bodily landscape” of the woman. And in other pictures, the same little man, endowed with a slight resemblance to the director Fellini himself, is suffocating with tenderness in the steamy depths of his matron’s breasts the size of the globe.
Only a person who absolutely trusted life, was open to it, and was selflessly in love with life could so innocently blab out their lusts and passions to everyone, drawing such erotic pictures on restaurant bills, napkins and newspaper scraps.
It is precisely these people who are endowed with special plastic sensitivity, special vigilance in observing (disinterested and uncunning) the delightful pantomime of the world. This pantomime, a clownery with Fellini’s faithful companion, who took on the guise of Harlequin Giulietta Masina in his drawings, with a carnival procession of friends, with fantastic animals and dancing busty odalisques, was transformed into a film montage of great films. And today, thanks to the idea of the President of the Province of Rome Enrico Gasbarra and other Italian friends of the director who conceived the Fellini Week in Moscow, as well as the Face: Fashion brand and Samsung sponsorship, we have the honor of rummaging through the very rubbish from which, as we know... Exactly, not knowing the shame... Stunning, by the way, rubbish. Turning it over, you realize that all brilliant Italians have a special gift for combining the incompatible. The culture of European Baroque in Fellini could not even be a cause, but a consequence of his passion for drawing funny pictures (comics) in his youth, just as metaphysical meanings were ironically privatized in the field of pop culture. And - what is surprising - such a mishmash is completely justified. Because she is perfect.
