In 2004 , the Ministry of Transport, “taking into account the extremely difficult road situation in the north of the capital,” decided to build a paid high-speed highway Moscow-St. Petersburg, with a total length of about 700 kilometers.

In 2008 , Rosavtodor announced an open competition for the right to conclude a concession agreement on financing, construction and operation of the road. Local residents, in turn, back in 2007, began collecting signatures against deforestation, wrote complaints and appeals to the President and the Government, the Prosecutor General and the courts. But in the end, on March 1, 2010 , the Supreme Court refused the lawsuit to the defenders of the Khimkinsky forest, confirming the legality of the order of the Russian government on the transfer of 150 hectares of forest for the construction of the motorway.

In mid -July 2010, when the deforestation resumed, the defenders of the forest defeated the 24 -hour tent camp in order to expel the slaughterhouses of the forest. Later, on suspicion of pogroms, two participants in the Antifa movement Alexei Gaskarov and Mikhail Solopov were arrested. Soon, the Moscow Regional Court recognized their arrest legal. Now they are behind bars. Activists of the “In Defense of the Khimkinsky Forest” movement denied their involvement in the defeat, but the tent camp was still dispersed by riot police.

On August 4, in the center of Moscow, Yevgeny Chirikova was arrested. She was delivered for interrogation about the defeat of the building of the Khimki administration, releasing only in the evening, obliging to appear in the police department of the city of Khimki. The next day, Chirikov was again detained and taken to court this time - on charges of "disobedience to police officers" and "conducting an unauthorized rally in the Khimki forest." As a result, the court sentenced Chirikov to fines of 1,500 and 800 rubles.

On August 10, the defenders of the Khimki forest set up a camp at the Government House in Moscow.

On August 22, a rally-concert “We all live in the Khimkinsky Forest” was held on Pushkin Square in Moscow in support of the forest defenders with the participation of the DDT and Yuri Shevchuk group, as well as the TV group, Barto, Muping Mup and Padla Bear Outfit and others.
