The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that he completely freed the Kursk region from the APU units, which had invaded the territory of the region in August 2024.
The head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said that on April 26, the Russian military took control of the last settlement - the village of Gornal.
“The defeat of the armed forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which invaded the Kursk region, was completed. The plans of the Kyiv regime to create the so -called strategic bridgehead and the breakdown of our offensive in the Donbass failed, ”Gerasimov said, speaking with a report to Vladimir Putin.
According to him, during the battles in the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost over 76 thousand military killed and wounded.
After the liberation of the region, the Russian military continues to create a “security zone in the border regions of the Sumy region of Ukraine”, Gerasimov added. According to the head of the General Staff, to the present moment the Russian army was taken under control of the four settlements of the Sumy region in the total territory of more than 90 square kilometers.
The President of the Russian Federation, in turn, noted that the operation in the Kursk region "creates the conditions for the further successful actions of our troops and in other most important sections of the front, brings the defeat of the neo -Nazi regime."
Gerasimov separately thanked for the help of the Russians and participate in the battles of the DPRK military. Thus, Russia for the first time officially admitted that soldiers from North Korea are fighting on its side in the Kursk region.
According to foreign intelligence, the DPRK sent to Russia about 11 thousand troops to participate in the war in Ukraine, and four thousand of them were killed or injured.
Soon after Gerasimov’s speech, the response statement published the General Staff of the Armed Forces. In it, the department denies that Russian troops completely knocked out the Ukrainian military from the territory of the Kursk region.
“The defense operation of the defense forces of Ukraine in certain areas of Kurshchina continues. The operational situation is complex, but our units continue to hold certain positions and carry out the assignment tasks, while applying the enemy to effectively fire defeat from all types of weapons, including applied active defense tactics, ”the Ukrainian General Staff said.
According to the military, from the beginning of the day the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already reflected five assault on the part of the Russian troops, but there is no threat of cordon for Ukrainian units.
