Thus, the Ukrainian president managed to create a miracle of a national scale: bosom enemies again together. At least in words.
This is not the only success of Yanukovych. He also managed, cynically, taking advantage of the patriotism of the Russian leadership, to conclude an agreement that is very profitable for Ukraine. Firstly, the contract under the Black Sea Fleet extended a quarter century, raising the price for renting a base. Secondly, he sharply reduced the price of gas coming from the Russian Federation. The total amount of Russian costs for patriotism, according to experts, is four billion one hundred million dollars a year.
However, there is no doubt that Medvedev and Yanukovych signed a mutually beneficial agreement in Kharkov. Only everyone has their own benefits.
Russia, preserving the fleet, is excreting the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the twentieth century", and when it comes to disaster of this level, then, of course, no dollars are sorry. On the contrary, only money is spent in appearance to Yanukovych. Straight is a bad replacement of gas, voters will be unhappy, and a strong business executive at the president’s post does not want to risk the most expensive - power.
There is a curious paradox. While romance retained power in Kyiv, relations between countries were worse nowhere. The Chekist longing for the indestructible union came across Western nationalism, and there were sparks. But barely at the head of Ukraine, a pragmatic man stood up - albeit a confusing gene pool with genocide, but well able to count money - how harmony came between countries. For the opposites converge, and such different people as Medvedev and Yanukovych, in two counts agreed with each other - both in gas, and in the fleet, and money. They will also agree on genocide.
However, this world is fragile, and all agreements hang literally in the balance. The authorities will change in Russia, someone calculated and self-serving will reign in the Kremlin, it will multiply all these billions by 25-and he will think hard about the non-Uzin properties of the federal treasury. Or, having staggered, unexpectedly united "orange" to throw Yanukovych again - and they will want to see their country free from the foreign fleet.
In general, all hope for the durability of the authorities in Kyiv and Moscow. For the generosity of the Kremlin politicians who are ready to at least bankrupt Gazprom, if only the unsinkable museum of naval glory was still based where he was under both the king and the Soviet regime. On the pragmatism of the Donetsk kid, who sincerely does not cut out of what independence his opponents say when it is about living "grandmothers".
However, it is possible that this hope is stronger than it seems at first glance. A friendly tandem is ready, following the Constitution, to rule Russia until the end of the contract under the Black Sea Fleet - and at least until the end of this period. On the contrary, the political union of the former Orange princess and its former president even today, when they pronounce the same words, looks almost absurd. Yes, and those times have passed when Tymoshenko and Yushchenko extracted political benefits from their union. I'm afraid that forever.
Today, only Lady Yu. Moreover, Lady Yu. Moreover, unlike Yushchenko, it is not at all like romance to return to the Ukrainian Olympus, and in the ability to quickly put the numbers with endless zeros will not give in to Victor Fedorovich. Even the idea creeps up that as the president of Ukraine, she would now act in the same way as Yanukovych. Only much more convincing and thinner.
So I see Julia Vladimirovna on the rostrum, urging the enormous people to take into account all the benefits of the new agreement with Russia. I hear her excited voice, in which the maternal concern for the national budget connects with soft threats: to drive away the fleet - we will be left without gas and money. Straw will have to drown our cold dwellings, my dear! And we will preserve independence, glorious Ukrainians, I swear to you the most expensive - your health and happiness! And the hall would shudder from the applause, and Moscow would shudder from the prices set by it, and the harsh Black Sea sailors would melt from fraternal love.
