I mean the decree of President Medvedev, which prohibits the transfer of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems and other types of weapons to Iran.
Firstly, this decision of the Kremlin indicates that Russia seriously refers to the Anti-Iranian sanctions of the UN Security Council adopted in June.
Secondly, the real reboot in relations between the Russian Federation and the USA continues. Last week, within the framework of this process, the Senate Committee on International Affairs voted to ratify the START-3 agreement, very profitable Russia, which will not have to reduce anything at all. As one might understand, when concluding this agreement in the spring in Prague, Moscow pledged in response to refuse to supply weapons to Akhmadinejad.
Thirdly and the main ones, on the eve of the decisive discussions about the Iranian peaceful atom, the main defensive weapon is knocked out in aggressive mullah.
Actually, in Tehran, this two -traders solved immediately, back in May, shortly before Prague. Then Akhmadinejad made unprecedentedly sharp anti -Russian speeches, threatening Medvedev that his country could become the "historical enemy of Iran." There was no answer, except that Sergei Lavrov complained complacently in the sense that you could not help with emotions. It seemed that Russia, having calculated all the risks, made an important, although not final choice. The impression was correct.
This choice was not easy. On the one hand, the coming war in the region was expected with us with gambling. This alien war, as before Iraqi, promised Moscow a new one, an explosive increase in energy prices, which in a crisis was very seductive. In addition, it was easy to predict and warm up anti -American sentiments, which in Russia of the zero years has always been considered useful. However, I would have to pay for these little joys: a sharp cooling of relations with America, multiplied by Obama’s personal irritation. Having weighed all the pros and cons, the Kremlin decided to at least transfer the terms for the S-300 agreements. What was a landmark event, because not so often, choosing between their favorite “outcasts” and the hated West, in Russia they prefer to offend “outcasts”.
Now Iran’s positions in discussions with America are significantly weakened. And although yesterday the brave Mahmoud, speaking in New York, promised America the “war without borders” in response to missile strikes, it sounded not very convincing. For in a direct clash with the Pentagon Iran is doomed, and he has practically no allies in the region. Worse: most Arab neighbors are afraid of the Iranians much more than Israel, and dreams that the nuclear threat emanating from Tehran is forever over. Moreover, it is preferably by the wrong hands, if Akhmadinejad himself is not able to abandon his plans. Here the benefit is double: Iran will not become a regional leader with a bomb, and the anger of Arabic street can be directed against America.
Probably, similar thoughts secretly bear the tandem of friends in the Kremlin. Akhmadinezhad is careful enough to polemize with the world community without Russian missiles, which means that the massacre that promises so many benefits to Russia is still inevitable, despite the fact that normal relations with America are restored. To whom you will not envy in this situation is Obama. The Laureate of the Nobel Prize of the World, he must make an extremely difficult decision in the coming years, if not months, which contradicts all his life and political attitudes.
