June 12: Help the West

In many countries of the world, shares of solidarity with the actions of Russian civil society have been organized.

A group of public figures made a call to the Russian -speaking diaspora abroad - as the circulation said, "... to everyone who is not indifferent to the current situation in Russia and its further fate, associated with the fate of relatives living there."

Here are fragments from this appeal:

"We urge you to express mass support for the movement for changes in Russia and solidarity with a protest rally in Moscow on June 12, having conducted rallies and pickets with white ribbons among embassies, consulates, traders, cultural centers and other representative offices of Russia ...

We believe that the Russian -speaking diaspora in any country in the world can and has moral right to contribute to changes for the best support in Russia in Russia as the bill named after Sergey Magnitsky in the United States and the adoption of similar legislative acts in the UK and other countries ...

We must convince the civilized world that today Russia is one of those places on our common planet where its fate is being decided, and what to relate to what is happening there with indifferent detachment or cynical pragmatism is also unethical and dangerous. But you can give a voice of a Russian -speaking diaspora only by demonstrating its unity ... "

Among the signing are Vladimir Bukovsky, Andrei Illarionov, Andrei Piontkovsky, Alexander Podrabinek, Viktor Shenderovich.

Solidarity shares with opposition and civil protests in Russia were organized around the world. According to the International Movement "For Home Elections in Russia", the geography of shares is very wide - Australia, Europe, the USA.

One of its organizers Maxim Filandrov , head of the Russie-Libertes association, spoke about the action in Paris:

- Today's campaign under the slogan of solidarity with the “Million Marsh” is aimed at stopping the persecution of the opposition, to release political prisoners, to advocate honest elections. All the same slogans that are full of all manifestations since December in all countries, including France. It must be understood that there are a lot of us, not only Russians, but also the friends of Russia, who are very concerned about the fate of the country and would like to show the Russian authorities that they need to urgently go to negotiations, while they can still peacefully come to some consensus.

- What do you think, your action, will it have some kind of effect?

- Our action will undoubtedly have an effect. This is not the first action of this kind. All previous shares were aimed at providing moral support for those who go out in Russia. Because you need to take into account the conditions in which they come out. We do not go out under the batons, the police are more likely to protect us than disperses us. And we know how important to everyone who finds the strength, courage, just time to go out in Russia, to hear that the whole world from Australia to San Francisco, Paris, London, Berlin also comes out. We, the Russians living abroad, are still often in Russia, we feel like a single whole. And this is a completely new phenomenon. Now there is no idea - an emigrant, not an emigrant. Everyone comes out as a sign of solidarity.

The action in support of the civil movement in Russia took place in Prague near the building of the Russian embassy in the Czech Republic. Another action was organized in Berlin - at the Russian Embassy in Germany. It was attended by Russian artist Dmitry Vrubel living in Berlin:

- Is this an art action or civilian for you?

- This is a civil action. I am going as a citizen. Just a week ago, I thought not to walk. But what happened yesterday, lifted from the bed, tears away from the easel. For me, it looks like an absolutely fascist action of intimidation of the opposition.

- Will it have any effect - the action of the Russian embassy? Can it have an impact on the position of the Russian authorities?

- It seems to me that this appeal is not to the Russian embassy. For me personally, this is an appeal to the Germans, to the Europeans, to the west, to the German authorities. Because we now watched Putin’s visit to Berlin, and to be honest, I was struck by the cordiality with which Merkel hugged, kissed with a usurpator. We saw how at one time the same Berlusconi or Sarkozy received Muamar Gaddafi, and how much it was worth the blood of the Libyan people. Therefore, the longer the western benefit to the regime that has developed in Russia lasts, the more difficult and maybe the bloodstream of exit from this situation will be bloodiest. Therefore, the appeal is primarily to the West, which is the main sponsor of the Putin regime. Because all the money that receives the regime goes from the West, from the sale of oil, gas and so on.
