Students and teachers of the Academy of Education protest in Irkutsk
In Irkutsk, students and teachers of the East Siberian State Academy of Education protest, Radio Liberty correspondent Ekaterina Vertinskaya reports.
About a hundred people went to the city center with posters: “Stability in universities - stability in the region!”, “The rector is our choice!”, “The reprisal with the oldest university in Siberia!”, “You will follow our university!”, “There are no teaching gardens, no schools, no Skolkovo!”.
Protesters distributed a leaflet with the appeal of teachers of the Academy, students, graduates and teachers of the Irkutsk region to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The authors of the letter report that thanks to the government of the Irkutsk region, the raider seizure of the Academy of Education was committed: Rector Alexander Gavrilyuk was removed from his post. The acting head of the university was appointed in his place, under whose leadership the teaching staff refuses to work.
People are sure that all actions are made in order to seize the real estate of the academy. Teachers reinforce their suspicions with specific facts, which are also sent to the President of Russia.
