Andrei Babitsky spent the day of return in vain attempts to be just a loving father and husband. Forget about who he became in these few months. Lyudmila's wife took on the role of the most intractable spokeswoman and answered all the calls of annoying colleagues firmly: "Wait for the press conference."
Correspondents of "OG" were allowed to Andrei, begging not to ask about Chechen adventures. But we still managed to ask a few questions.
Do you feel relief?
There is no relief, but there is a sense of inner tension and misunderstanding of the logic of events. I was hung on a recognizance not to leave on an absolutely pointless accusation. I consider myself a victim, not a criminal.
Who were you in Chechnya?
I don't know myself.
But are there any guesses?
For indirect circumstances, it seems to me that Russian ... not even special services, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But I cannot say this. Two Chechens guarded me. They treated me normally, but since every day the options for my future changed, every day I lived in anticipation of either death or some even more bad options.
Changed what happened, your attitude to the present and future of this country?
Absolutely not. I have always been ready for this country.
Do you associate your professional future with Chechnya?
Of course. I am the chief of the North Caucasus Bureau, and if I do not be a chef, I will be a correspondent. In my plans for the future, absolutely nothing has changed, I just began to fear more than those circumstances that I used to consider insignificant.
When did you first see the special issue of "OG"?
The newspaper was brought to me by my wife to the Makhachkala pre -trial detention center. Passed during a date. I want to say this. I have a very good friend, teacher at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University Vitaly Tishchenko. He has such a strange habit - he keeps all the special missiles. I never understood why he was doing this. Now I understood.
