The Internet lack of sleep is to blame for everything, addiction to alcohol and wandering over the Internet can be hidden causes of weight gain that girls often experience when growing up, testify to the results of a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics, the publication press service reports. The authors of the article, Dr. Katherine Berkey and her colleagues, note that the girls who enter at a youthful age often gain more norms in weight, but the reasons for this were not always clear, RIA Novosti reports.
Scientists examined more than 5 thousand girls from 14 years old to 21 years old in all 50 US states. The participants in the experiment were asked to describe their lifestyle over the past year, in particular, how many hours they spent on sleep, the Internet (excluding time at work or at school), how much they drank alcohol and coffee. In addition, they had to tell their height and weight at the beginning and at the end of this period. The results showed that the more time the girls spent on the Internet, the more they drank alcoholic beverages and slept less,
The higher was the weight gain by the end of the year.
So, girls are 18 years old and older, who drank alcoholic drinks two or more times a week and slept for less than six hours a day, and also spent a lot of time for Internet surfing, scored about two kilograms a year more than other participants in the experiment.
Scientists did not find the connection between coffee consumption and weight gain, but noted that this information was obtained before high -calorie coffee drinks became popular.
“Such behavior can contribute to a gradual increase in body weight, but girls and their parents may not understand the reasons for this,” says Dr. Berki.
According to her, in order to maintain normal body weight, girls should reduce the time for Internet surfing, sleep more and avoid alcohol.
