A review of the new DVDs under the curtain of the recent Cannes festival in the competition was shown “Labyrinth Pan” - a terrible fairy tale about partisans, war and dictatorship from the Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. The film quite really claimed a "golden palm tree". Meanwhile, we have just an early opus of the director called “Chronos” on licensed discs. This picture demonstrates where Del Toro began and allows you to trace how the master of vampire horror films grown to the very large -scale and deep cinema. Those who have seen the second “Blade” - and this is perhaps the most popular guillermo production for today - will not doubt that the Mexican has long gained a hand on vampire life. And before making a movie himself, he served as a specialist in special effects and makeup. These components are still in the independent feeds of the director. In additional materials, Del Toro personally talks about the hardships of the creative path and how, due to the lack of funds, he laid the house and devastated the savings bank. The financial risk turned out to be justified: the film received several prizes and began to create a reputation to the author in Hollywood. Chronos is the story of a gray -haired antique dealer, in whose bench an old figurine accidentally hit with a secret. For no reason, some disgusting cockroaches crawled out of the statue, and a dangerous clockwork toy, something like a giant spider with sharp mechanical legs, was found in the pedestal. This insect first painfully pricked, and then just captivated the antiqueurization: it needed daily masochistic bloodletting and bloody feeding. An elderly keeper of rarities began to be afraid of light and slowly turned into a vampire. The trouble, however, was that Antikvar did not know either the true purpose of the mysterious mechanism, nor the rules for treating it. But these rules were known to those who had long been hunting for him. In the showdown for the possession of an elegant piercing-cutting object, several thugs and a little girl, the granddaughter of the antique dealer, participated. Considering that Chronos was created on bare enthusiasm and in constrained circumstances, it can be called a model of the genre.
A typical representative of another fashionable direction - a musical film booking - can be considered the mini -series Elvis: The Early Years, marked by Emmy and Golden Globe. This is not a documentary, but quite feature movie with Jonathan RiS-Meyers in the role of young Elvis. The British actor really looks like the king of rock and roll and, on occasion, can even sing some of his compositions-at one time, RiS-Meyers had to show musical talents in the glamorous “Velvet Goldmine”. However, in the film “Elvis: The Early Years”, Jonathan did not have to sing: Presley's genuine voice sounds in him, whether it be “Love ME Tender” or “Are You Lonesome Tonight”. The heiress of Elvis, Lisa-Maria, not only blessed the shooting of the picture, but also participated in them. The plot of the film booking is, as it is easy to guess by name, the beginning of the dizzying career of the pop idol. The authors as a whole tried to be objective: the king’s fans are offered not only a reverent journey to the holy of holies - the Graisland estate under Memphis, but also unambiguous hints of the singer’s problems with drugs. Such motives were already sounding in the Bayopics "Ray" and "Cross the line."
The influence of another chronic dependence - drunkenness - tells the action of the “16 quarters” with Bruce Willis - about the cause of the whole life of another chronic dependence.
His hero is a drunk policeman, who was waved to both colleagues and a corrupt authorities. When the latter needed a sucker to crank the next black business, the bet was made precisely on the weakness and shaking hands of the drunk with an icon. Willis was instructed to deliver a valuable witness from the site to the court in the corruption case in order to remove it on the way. A whole group of policemen was not interested in the guy to testify. And the witness came in a talkative: having spent a few minutes in his society, Bruce was already tired of him. But the armed attack of colleagues was an even more unpleasant surprise for him. And for most of the “16 quarters”, the cop who was suffering from a hangover from a hangover had to prove under his own example the fidelity of the thesis “you won’t drink skill”.
Sleeping shootings between “their own” and the fact that the notebook of the hostages here himself had to capture them, they will deliver a lot of joyful minutes to fans of the genre of a police officer.
As for the strong, solid exposure of Willis’s game, there is another movie among DVD novice with his participation: “A happy number of slang”. True, this film was released with the Russian -speaking sound path, but the intrigue in it will partially remind Guy Richie and obviously draws a parallel with Tarantino “criminal reading”, and with the part of the story where the hero of Willis values his father's hours. Slevin performed by Josh Hartnet here is the successor and student of the character of Bruce, and only he can count on him, being between two lights, two mafia bosses. And a happy number, in the name, is associated with bets on dark horses.
