At the Kinotavr-2008 festival, the XIX Open Russian Film Festival "Kinotavr" ended on Sunday evening in Sochi to the fierce sounds of the Rolling Stones group. The premiere show of the painting by Martin Scorsese "Let there be light", which became the official closing film, was preceded by the announcement of the verdict of the festival, headed by Pavel Chukhrai. The verdict was much more like Solomonov’s decision than last year's choice of Sochi judges who wrote almost all the awards of the single picture “Simple things”. Nevertheless, the current prize alignment can not be called impeccable. Gingerbread gingerbread is always not enough for everyone, but the correspondent of the "newspaper" was surprised, having met the director of the festival of Alexei Teacher without an evening costume, but with baggage. This could mean only one thing: the teachers notified in advance that his film "Plana" was bypassed by mercies, and he interrupted his visit to Sochi. Meanwhile, the "captive" is the best work of the teacher. It is based on a small story by Vladimir Makanin that the forces connecting people are sometimes more powerful than disconnecting the energies of the military confrontation, and that the explosive wave of feelings can cover as no bomb can be able to.
However, the outwardly modest film of the teacher of judges did not touch. The opportunity to celebrate it, evaluating the work of two provincial actors Vyacheslav Krikunov and Pyotr Logachev one for two rewards for the best male role, was also ignored. Instead, the British Jetro Skinner from the melodrama of Oksana Bychkova "plus one" crowned. Skinner as a visiting puppeteer is Mil, but it is difficult to declare this choice unconditional.
In the justification of the jury, one can only notice that this year there was a crop failure of male roles in an apple, which usually does not happen on the Kinotavra. Previously, as a rule, the jury problem was to find a qualitative female role. There were at least two such roles in the 2008 contest: the peasant Nasten played by Daria Moroz in the film adaptation of the Rasputin novel “Live and Remember” and the opera diva growing into the harsh ground - her image was embodied by Ksenia Rappoport in the metaphysical drama Kirill Serebrennikov according to the script of Yuri Aravov “Yuryev Day”.
The jury preferred the St. Petersburg actress Rappoport, and this decision worthy was a surprise for the chosen one. She left the festival on the eve of the closure and a few hours before the ceremony was urgently requested by the Directorate, but the plane was delayed, and Rappoport did not manage to receive the prize. Last year, her work in the film, Giuseppe Tornator, was awarded to the Italian David Di Donatello Italian Prize, followed by the signing of a contract for three more Italian films. In one of them, who is now in work, Rappoport plays a woman whom the main character, the Italian, prefers a housewife played by Monika Bellucci.
"Live and remember" did not leave without the main awards: Alexander Proshkin was called the best director. This decision cannot be called indisputable, but to ignore the teacher of another master from the "youth" in their composition, the judge, apparently, was not considered possible. On this gifts for "live and remember" are over.
But a good crop was harvested by Mikhail Kalatosishvili: “White Elephant” from film sciences and film critics, a prize to Alexei Aigi for the best music, and Peter Lutsik and Alexei Samorbava - posthumously for the best script. The jury considered Alexander Melnik the best producing project worthy of the special forkip. The work is of high -quality, but the reward for the first time presented at the Kinotavr, but Oleg Lukichev seemed an obvious contender for this, as an obvious contender. He had two films in the competition at once, and strikingly dissimilar to each other in textures: the snow-covered "Yuryev Day" and the fire-shooting "ocean" Mikhail Kosyrev-Nesterova in Cuba. For some reason, this circumstance did not take into account the jury, having acted with Lukichev unfairly. Perhaps, as in the case of the teacher, there was an intrigue associated with a complex system of internal relations in Russian cinema. It is no coincidence that a nonsense was widespread at the festival, as if Lukichev threw all the material shot in Cuba and the unfortunate producer was forced to pull the “ocean” on the computer for a lot of money.
Reviewing the contest program before the start of the festival, it was safe to predict that the jury chairman Pavel Chuhrai, who shot his best film about a thief, was doomed to special relations with the film Bakuradze Schiltes. This picture is about a -autistic pickpocket, for whom theft is the only possible way to contact the world. As a result, the laconic and outwardly impassive Bakuradze film, Strazu, after the show, fairly one of the main festival favorites, received the main award of Kinotavr-2008. The “Schaltes” ends joylessly, but this circumstance, as one of the leaders of the Kinotavra, - Alexander Rodnyansky, noted in the final speech, will not stop hoping for the rainbow future of Russian cinema. Apparently, that's why the film Martin Scorsese "Let there will be light" was shown under the curtain.
