- How did the Higher School of Business of Moscow State University appear?
- Moscow State University is the first university of Soviet Russia, where the management school was created. This happened in 1989. The school was opened on the initiative of Viktor Sadovnichy, who was then the first vice -rector of Moscow State University. At that time, we taught directors of Soviet enterprises, who were supposed to build a socialist market, according to Mikhail Gorbachev, in the idea of Mikhail Gorbachev. Since 1992, cooperators have become our students. In 1993, the Moscow State University Business School was created on the basis of the Faculty of Economics, and since 1995 the MBA program has appeared. We developed and conducted MVA programs on an audit for a large six auditors and PR for the Ministry of Fuel and Energy. Plus two commercial programs General MBA.
- Was a business school created without Western support?
- Without. Although the Japanese government helped us a lot. The current building was presented to us by the Japanese. True, this did not happen in the nineties, but in 2001. In the same year, we passed the certification of the Ministry of Health and became an independent faculty of Moscow State University, began to prepare students under the General MBA program. The first issue was December 14 this year. In the future, we want to prepare Executive MBA.
- What is the mission of the school?
- We do not consider ourselves a structure that is engaged in training. We are an institution of social changes, contribute to the formation of a civilized market in the country. The school is not engaged in advanced training of managers, we make competitive leaders who will develop the Russian market and business.
- Who is studying at school?
- On the MVA program we have 5 groups of 30 people. This is the limit level in the number of students. For a third of students, companies are paid (for example, Rosgosstrakh, Philips), a third - managers of large firms, and the rest are already held in business people. The last two groups pay for themselves. Among them are many representatives of small and medium -sized businesses. The average age of students is 30 years. In addition, there are also three groups of masters with a total number of 90 people.
- Why do they, so successful, study?
- The business school gives its graduate three things: brand, communications and education. Notice that education is in third place. The main thing, in essence, is communication and communication. Some students even go to work with their fellow students.
- Why are there so few students?
- Some schools report about 500 graduates per year. However, MBA is a piece product, designed mainly for the elite. Therefore, I have doubts about the quality of the formation of those schools that produce MVA specialists hundreds.
- How are programs built in the Higher School of Business of Moscow State University?
- We have two identical ones in content, but different in terms of the duration of the MBA program. The two -year course involves classes twice a week from 18 to 21 hours plus from 10 to 18 on Saturday or Sunday. According to a one and a half -year program, classes are held three times a week plus Saturday or Sunday. In addition, we will organize internships in Japan. In the course of MBA there are lectures on such disciplines as macro and microeconomics. True, we mainly conduct practical classes. During them, students individually or in groups of 7-8 people solve real business tasks. Moreover, obviously the right decision does not exist. After all, the correctness of the decision can only be evaluated by the market: the goods are sold or not.
To receive a diploma, you need to pass exams and protect the project. It consists in solving a really existing problem at the company's choice. Moreover, for successful protection, the proposed decision, that is, its project, needs to be “sold”.
- Who teaches at the Higher School of Business?
- About 30% of our teachers - from different faculties of Moscow State University. Another third comes from other schools: the Higher School of Economics and the Academy of National Economy. Really practicing people teach. To some courses, we are forced to invite famous professors from abroad. However, all our teachers must be connected in one way or another with practice. After all, a teacher with a salary of 200 dollars a month cannot teach a student to earn tens of thousands. Therefore, we invite practices who are successfully working in business and in departments.
- How to become a student at the Higher School of Business of Moscow State University?
- Successfully pass serious exams on economics and management and undergo an interview on the current topic in world business. For example, the bankruptcy of Enron was discussed in previous exams. True, to do another half. We tightly control attendance: if the student does not walk, he is expelled. There were already precedents. In addition, we do not have such a concept as retake: debtors have to go through a course on a new one if they want to get a diploma. There were also cases when the student was not allowed to defend the diploma if he did not agree on the topic on time or allowed some other technical violation.
- Learning, presumably, is not free?
- Now the MBA rate we have $ 9.8 thousand. Started with 7 thousand dollars. In an increase in the cost of training, we want to increase the share of students for which employing companies pay. According to our observations, they learn better than those who pay for themselves. Apparently, they simply feel responsibility and see their prospects in the company.
- Do you certify MBA in Russia?
- There is an expert commission of the Public Council of Business Schools, which makes the conclusion for the compliance of the school with the requirements of MVA. Based on this conclusion, the Ministry of Health issues permission. I note that in Russia there were attempts to introduce the American MVA School Certification Systems, but they failed.
- Therefore, the diploma of the Russian school of MVA is not quoted in the West?
- Indeed, the Russian MBA is not recognized in the world and will soon receive recognition. And absolutely deserved. But not because of the licensing system. She is not important. Firstly, in Russia there are not enough qualified teachers. Secondly, few people want to study. To get a weighty MVA, you need to sit at school almost around the clock. Russian students are accustomed to teach them, and not they study.
I also note that no one certifies authoritative MVA MVA schools like Harvard. They have their own individual standard. We do something similar: our graduates, in addition to the diploma of the Consumer, receive a school diploma.
“But the quality of education should somehow be controlled?” At least with ratings.
- We do not participate in Russian ratings, since we do not believe in their honesty. After all, Western ratings are compiled mainly on the average salaries of graduates. In Russia, such a rating cannot be compiled - the salary is mainly black. In general, quality control is a market business. If in some kind of MVA is bad, graduates achieve little, then no one will go to study there, and the school will die by itself.
- Does this self -regulation work in Russia?
- Since 1995, a boom of business schools, similar to a boom in commercial universities, began. But most of them disappears, since there are really no MBA there. Now about 100 schools are included in the Russian Association of Business Education. But in the end, the best will remain in the market - such as the Higher School of Business of Moscow State University, the business school of the Higher School of Economics, the leading schools in the business of the Academy of the National Economy, the faculty of management of LNI (created with Berkeley). No more. I also have an idea to combine these schools into a consortium, similar to that created by leading American schools (including Harvard and Stanford). They are not owed to each other, but hold the MBA level, set the tone. Russia needs something similar.
