French actress, singer and model Brigitte Bardot has died at the age of 91, Le Figaro and AFP report.

Brigitte Bardot was born in Paris, studied ballet in her youth, then became a fashion model and actress. She became famous for starring in the film “And God Created Woman” (1956) directed by Roger Vadim, who was her first husband. Subsequently, Bardot starred in almost 50 films, including “Truth” (1960), “Contempt” (1963), “Viva Maria!” (1965), “Dear Brigitte” (1965), “Male - Female” (1966). Bardot worked as an actress with Alain Delon, Marcello Mastroianni; starred with Jean-Luc Godard and many other famous French directors. The actress ended her film career in 1973 at the age of 39.

Bardot also studied music and recorded several records. In particular, she sang with Serge Gainsbourg, with whom she had a short affair - and who wrote several songs especially for her.

After finishing her film career, Bardot became an animal advocate. In 1987, she founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the protection of animals, raising three million francs at auction - she sold her jewelry and property. In addition, she gave the foundation her real estate - a house in Bazoche and a mansion in Saint-Tropez - as well as the rights to her book. The actress herself said that the foundation “constitutes the meaning and purpose of her life” and that “animals are closer to her than people.”
