The Metenkov House team shares the most interesting competitions for photographers and artists every month in digest format. Do you want to compete with advertising posters on the streets of Cologne with your works? Or maybe add a publication in a German independent photo magazine to your portfolio? Reclaim Award 2019 in Cologne
The organizers of the new Reclaim Prize, which is supposed to be made regular and held every year in the third quarter, think of public space as a place for art. As part of their initiative, they are renting billboards in the center of Cologne for 10 days in September and handing them over to artists who can use the stands to express themselves. Authors of any genre can participate (photographers too). The only condition is that the work must be displayed in poster format.
The theme of the first year is “Design and use of public space”. The winners will be selected by an international jury - artists, gallery owners, and museum workers.
Deadline: July 29
Fee: 25 euros for the first image, 15 euros for the second, 10 euros for each subsequent one.
Publication in HANT magazine in Germany
HANT is an independent German photo magazine for young artists and writers. The publication is also young, like the authors it invites to collaborate, but has already been recognized with awards at the national level. The Thuringian-based magazine was founded by FOTOINIT, a platform that systematically promotes and explores photographic diversity through lectures, seminars and exhibitions.
The theme of the twelfth issue of the publication, for which participants are recruited, is “Signs of the Times,” or, as the editor explains, “today in tomorrow.” Authors of projects selected for publication will receive a free copy of the magazine and will be invited to the presentation of the issue in mid-October.

International Bird in Flight Prize 2019
No set time frame, no restrictions on topics and methods of working with images, openness to post-processing and even the use of other people's images (one thing: if copyright allows it) - the Bird in Flight Prize does not look for photographic projects that meet generally accepted requirements, but highlights new ways of telling stories. Therefore, the rules of participation in the competition include the triumph of freedom and diversity.
The jury of the award included photographers Antoine D'Agata (Paris), Ola Lanko (Amsterdam), Vlad Sokhin (Chiang Mai) and Dmitry Kostyukov (Paris), artist and YET Magazine editor Salvatore Vitale (Zurich) and Emilia van Linden, member of the expert committee of the Unseen photo festival (Amsterdam). Projects from the shortlist will be published on the Bird in Flight website and shown at an exhibition in Kyiv. The winner will receive 2,000 euros, and 15 competition participants will be able to attend a portfolio review by the award jury.

Fee: 15 euros for one application, plus 5 euros per project when submitting it for a portfolio review.
Bonus: Grants for master’s students “Curator Practices in Contemporary Art”
An opportunity for those who are not only an artist, but also a curator or seriously planning to become one. The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Research University Higher School of Economics are opening this year a full-time master’s program “Curator Practices in Contemporary Art” (entrance tests are held until July 28, oral interviews are scheduled for August 8). Candidates for training in this area will be able to apply for a grant that fully covers the cost of the master's degree.
