Household appliances in a modern kitchen blur the boundaries: you can’t tell where one ends and another begins.
Once upon a time, the mixer was very simple: you picked it up, chose one of two whisking attachments, turned it on - and... It doesn’t matter that after a minute some of the foam was hanging from the walls in clumps. But the process itself!
A modern mixer does not “spit”. It has up to 6 speeds—a Zhiguli never dreamed of such a thing. And from his hands he moved to a special stand mounted above the bowl. Innovations required more power - 270-350 W. For manual models, 180-220 W is enough. But even thick dough is not suitable for them - they will break. And, for example, the Vitek (VT-1406) Optimal mixer, in addition to traditional whisks for whipping cream, egg whites and cream, has special attachments for kneading dough. Wide metal blades are ideal for mixing “heavy” dough and even minced meat.
In addition to mixing and whipping, stationary mixers are also equipped with additional accessories. As a rule, this is a chopping knife (they are very convenient for preparing sauces from soft tomatoes) and a blender attachment (to chop nuts or fruits for a cocktail). There are also exotic models. For example, a narrow, jackhammer-like masher mixer SM 3806 - for making purees. Sometimes the kit comes with... a coffee grinder, however, it is only suitable for coarse grinding.
Does a small family need a food processor if there is a modern mixer with many attachments? There are at least two arguments in favor of a mixer. Firstly, the cooking process in it is obvious and, for example, whipping cream (without “beating” it) is easier and more reliable for the housewife. And secondly, small dimensions: no matter how much a food processor hides part of its attachments inside, it will take up more space than a stand mixer.
