Our mind can be compared to our body. If we do not train the body - and as people age, people spend less and less time on this - it loses flexibility and mobility. The same thing happens with the brain, which becomes more and more lazy and slow over the years.
Don't narrow your interests
You've spent your entire life working as an engineer or accountant, forcing your brain to strain to solve complex problems. But then they retired and... The workload that was there is now gone. However, it’s starting to feel like you’ve had enough. You consciously stop looking for new solutions, preferring the templates that you have used for many years. You, without realizing it, are narrowing your range of interests, choosing to sit at the entrance instead of, say, reading poetry, much less memorizing them. Is it any wonder that you soon begin to complain about a bad memory, think for a long time before giving an answer, or spout obvious nonsense, while your children and grandchildren sigh behind you: “How old I am!” He doesn’t understand anything anymore..."
Find time to relax
It's never too late to start training your brain. Even in everyday situations there is an opportunity to strain your thinking abilities. But you need to be prepared for the fact that your training will require some time and attention. First, figure out what your habits are preventing you from thinking productively. Maybe you're stressed all day and can't even relax? Or maybe you fuss too much? Now try to write down the most urgent matters on a piece of paper, as well as your desires and problems. Rate each item. Find a new way to direct your attention where you want it, when you want it. Take time to relax.
Concentrate!
Do an exercise to concentrate your attention: take a watch with a second hand. Concentrate and start watching the second hand. For two minutes, focus only on this. If you fail, you get distracted, other thoughts enter your head, stop the activity, and then start again.
