In physics, opposites attract, and that's a good thing. But in lyric poetry this law is more complicated: when life brings together two people who are completely different by all criteria, this “attraction” often turns into problems. Curiosity about unequal marriages is at a minimum: who is older, who is richer, who is more important. What's the difference, really?
Husband-surrogate dad
Viktor Antonovich was completely unsuitable for the role of Nabokov's Humbert. And Masha was far from Lolita - she was already twenty at the time they met. However, the couple was still strange: fragile Masha and balding, bearded Uncle Vitya. That is, almost a “grandfather” - in Viktor Antonovich’s passport (and on his face too) the year of birth was 1945. At first, Masha’s friends made up jokes about her and Uncle Vitya, and then they calmed down - “poor Masha” looked too good. It bloomed, as they say, and smelled. She is still blooming - now in the status of the legal wife of Viktor Antonovich. And people still point fingers at them on the street.
It is believed that in such marriages the husband plays the role of a father - for the wife he is a patron, protector, idol, hero, and the like. If a woman is comfortable in such conditions, then “saving” her from this is stupid and harmful. Psychologists generally believe that the optimal age difference for marriage is 15 percent in favor of the husband. Then natural injustice is restored and the man in development (the stronger sex lags behind) becomes equal to the woman.
Sexually, women are already lagging behind. Young men who marry older ladies most often seek happiness in bed. Their sexuality peaks at 20-25 years, and for women at 35.
But! The danger still lurks in the same bed: it would be good not to confuse the father with the husband and the mother with the wife. Psychologists believe that this can turn a young woman away from sex with her older husband - she will see him as a father in bed, which, you see, is not the same thing. It’s the same with young husbands: no Oedipus complex will force them to have sex with their mother.
Is a goose a comrade and a husband to a pig?
The Norwegian prince as the husband of a waitress and former drug addict raises eyebrows. Everyone wants to know what this couple is talking about, and even more, what they will be talking about in five years.
In Tsarist Russia, such a marriage was considered “unequal.” Now the boundaries have been erased, but the essence of a marriage of unequal origin and the claims against it remain the same: a girl from a professor’s family (even if her pedigree is entirely peasants) will be reluctant to marry a plumber. The goose is still not a friend to the pig.
But! In addition to passion, even if it is over the edge, in marriage there must be understanding and intimacy - primarily spiritual. Only on them can a marriage survive - be it even a prince with a waitress, or Michael Jackson with a dermatologist's assistant. Love, as we know, passes - what remains then?
Rich man-poor man
When poor bus driver Larry Fortensky announced himself as Elizabeth Taylor's fiancé, people were divided into two camps - some thought Liz was crazy, others called Larry a gigolo. Their marriage fell apart as usual (everyone was already accustomed to this in the case of Taylor), and it turned out that the latter were right. Instead of grieving over the divorce, Larry didn’t even drink out of habit - from the moment of the breakup, he was only concerned with how best to share Liza’s fortune. In it, the mattress and the nurse immediately fell asleep in a dead sleep and a man woke up, capable of quickly adding multi-digit numbers in his mind. Unscrupulous swindler!
It's hard not to think about the calculation when a poor boy marries a rich girl, and vice versa. It is believed that there is calculation in any marriage, and this is very useful for marriage. You just need to count correctly - and take into account love, and money, and the character of the future husband, and his position, and everything that is only amenable to human thought. And then even a marriage like that of a millionaire and a driver will be strong. Swedish psychologists, by the way, claim that an unequal marriage is stronger the stronger the wife’s influence in it. Therefore, families where wives get rich and make careers, and husbands allow them to do this and do not act in vain, have every chance of turning from strange to happy.
But! It’s not for nothing that money is cursed a hundred times over. And even if there was no calculation on the part of the spouses and everything was done out of love, they will still have to endure the test of money. Not a single book says how Cinderella behaved when she no longer had to stand at the stove and clean the pigsty. Maybe she started chasing the servants, mother-in-law and her prince with a filthy broom? Or did she sleep on chests of gold? Or did she squander her entire treasury on clothes and crystal shoes?
