Last week marked 100 days since Sergei Sobyanin took office as mayor of the capital. In a survey on our website about whether Muscovites are satisfied with their mayor, the votes were divided almost equally: 34% are not satisfied, 55% are undecided. But you can already look for pros and cons in the work of the new mayor. “What kind of Sobyanin is the mayor?” – this time we asked famous Muscovites.
Leonid Olshansky, lawyer:
– The biggest reproach to Luzhkov was that all sorts of decisions related to the rights of citizens were made not according to the law, but according to the orders that he quietly signed in his office. Sobyanin brought the capital’s legislation into line with Russian legislation – this is his huge plus.
Konstantin Zatulin, State Duma deputy:
– I noticed that in acute situations - during the riots at Manezhnaya, after Domodedovo - the city authorities did not play the first role. Sobyanin eschews politics and does not get involved in matters that Luzhkov willingly got involved in. Now he is busy selecting a new team. The fact that it attracts non-Muscovites is already becoming symptomatic. This could lead to conflict with the capital's elite.
Joseph Kobzon, singer:
– I think that removing professionals who knew their job perfectly and replacing them with “Varangians” is not the right decision. And yet - during all these 100 days not a word was said about culture. What will happen to theaters and concert halls? And why has the mayor never gathered cultural figures to talk about problems? It's depressing.
Anna Prokhorova, TV presenter at TVC:
– 100 days is too short to evaluate the work of a person who came to such a huge farm. In my opinion, the process is underway. The new mayor brought order to the HOA - there was complete chaos there. The construction of the metro is carried out under his personal control. Moscow is suffocating without transport, but now things have improved. Finally, Sobyanin sorted out the tents. All these are household items. But you can also see from them that the owner has come.
Natalya Khorokhorina, actress:
“It’s sad that the roads are poorly maintained.” Apparently, Sobyanin has not yet succeeded in this. When you drive along the central streets, nothing happens, but if you turn to the side, it’s a disaster. Nothing has changed with traffic jams, but I noticed that the traffic lights have been changed at some particularly difficult intersections. Now their signals are more, how shall I put it... noticeable, or something.
Nikas Safronov, artist:
“We elected the same mayor for many years, not because he had any active advertising, but because we saw that he worked better than his predecessor. Now we have an appointee. The city seems to be alive, the houses are warm. True, there is no feeling that the sun has risen - the one who will sort everything out and everything will be fine has come.
