From time to time, something hurts somewhere. This body tells us about problems. And this is the main mission of pain. The pain cannot be tolerated - it causes a sharp narrowing of blood vessels and disruption of the nutrition of internal organs. So you can’t do without pain remedies in your home medicine cabinet.
The pharmaceutical market offers us a wide selection of painkillers. But are they all equally suitable for us?
Despite all the variety of painkillers, they are based on 4 active substances.
Acetylsalicylic acid (upsarin upsa, aspirin) An excellent antipyretic and analgesic, copes with inflammation. Reduces blood clotting, dissolves blood clots in small vessels. For acute respiratory infections and flu, it improves the general condition. Relieves pain in the spine, joints and muscles. Indispensable for a hangover. Sometimes it relieves migraine attacks. Do not use for inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, menstrual pain, bronchial asthma. Contraindicated for children (may cause disruption of the liver and brain - Reye's syndrome). Taking the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy can lead to congenital deformities of the fetus.
Paracetamol (paracetamol, efferalgan)
Less common than analgesics, it causes side effects and is practically safe for the stomach. But a weak analgesic. The temperature is reduced gradually. Approved for use by children and pregnant women.
In large doses, it has a negative effect on the liver.
Ibuprofen (nurofen, mig) Rarely causes side effects. It has an anti-inflammatory effect and is effective for joint pain. Helps with menstrual pain. Can be given to children. The analgesic effect is stronger than that of paracetamol. Sometimes it can cause damage to the gastric mucosa and kidney dysfunction.
Metamizole sodium (analgin, tempalgin) Has a pronounced analgesic effect. Used for headaches, toothaches, joint pain, neuralgia. However, long-term use of analgin leads to serious diseases of the blood, liver and kidneys. Therefore, most developed countries have abandoned the production and sale of analgin. Contraindicated for children and pregnant women.
Combination medications are best for relieving severe pain. They often contain caffeine, codeine and phenobarbital, which enhance the analgesic effect. Caffeine tones. Codeine has its own powerful analgesic effect. For example, solpadeine (paracetamol, caffeine and codeine). Phenobarbital is calming. Pentalgin includes caffeine, codeine, phenobarbital, analgin and paracetamol. For pain caused by spasms, drugs that combine analgin and an antispasmodic (spazmalgon, baralgin, spazgan) or ibuprofen with an antispasmodic (Novigan) are effective.
Attention To choose “your” painkiller, it is better to consult a doctor. If the pain bothers you frequently, it is dangerous to postpone a visit to the doctor!
