A handful of oatmeal, some fruit, milk - and you can enjoy a nutritious dietary dish of your own preparation. This product was invented by the Swiss doctor Maximilian Oskar Bircher-Benner (1867–1939). That’s why the full official name of the product is Bircher muesli. In 1900, the pioneer of healthy eating proclaimed to the Zurich Medical Society that cereals, fruits and vegetables were significantly more valuable food products than meat. And caused ridicule from colleagues. After all, at that time meat was considered the most valuable of all products, the privilege of the bourgeoisie. And cereals, vegetables and fruits were considered just the food of the poor.
One of the most important products in Dr. Bircher's new nutritional philosophy was muesli. The doctor's original recipe included natural foods such as apples, nuts, lemon juice, and rolled oats. And also a small exception from the group of absolutely natural products - sweetened condensed milk.
