We will need
granulated sugar – 1 cup
any berry juice – 1/2 cup
maple or corn syrup - 1/2 cup
water – 1/3 cup
vanilla extract – 0.5 tsp.
Instructions
Mix sugar, syrup, fruit juice and water in a thick-bottomed saucepan, place over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. When the sugar begins to caramelize, add vanilla extract, mix well and cool slightly.
The syrup should be thick and sticky with a spoon. Pour the mixture into molds or give the candies any shape (stripes, squiggles, balls, stars, etc.) by pouring the syrup onto a greased baking sheet. Stick a toothpick or wooden skewer into each candy, let cool at room temperature and enjoy the taste of childhood.
