When choosing products in a store, a literate buyer reads the labels on the packaging. And rightly so: I don’t want to harm my health. But often the packaging is literally rippling with incomprehensible indices with the letters E and endless numbers. What do they mean? Is it harmful, beneficial or neutral? The letter “E” on the product packaging means that the product complies with the European nutritional standard. The numbers are a coded type of food additive. But sometimes in products (and on packaging) there are such “Es” that are prohibited both in Russia and in Europe. For example, these:
E 102 – added to candies, cakes, baked goods, ice cream and drinks. In Europe, such an additive is prohibited, but not in Russia. May cause food allergies.
E 128 is a dye that gives sausages and sausages a pink color. But this additive is extremely dangerous, as it causes changes in genes and has a carcinogenic effect.
E 216 is a preservative banned in Russia. Added to pates, sausages, sweets, broths.
E 217 is also a preservative banned in Russia: it often causes food poisoning. Added to chocolate filling, soups, pates covered with jelly, meat products.
E 250 – “three in one bottle”: dye, preservative and seasoning. E 250 is allowed in Russia, but prohibited in Europe. It is added to meat, providing it with a red color (smoked meat, sausages, bacon, etc.). Leads to a decrease in the level of vitamins in the body, increases the excitability of the nervous system in children, causes oxygen starvation, cancer and food poisoning.
E 320 – added to chewing gum. Increases blood cholesterol levels. Nevertheless, this food additive is allowed in Russia.
All additives from
E 400 to E 499 are thickeners. They ensure the viscosity of the product (yogurts, all kinds of jellies and mayonnaises). But with prolonged and frequent use they can cause diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
E 510 – emulsifier, ensures product homogeneity. When eating food with this additive, liver dysfunction and diarrhea may develop.
E 513 and 527 are also emulsifiers that ensure the mixing of substances that are immiscible under normal conditions, such as oil and water. These “Eshki” cause disruptions in the functioning of the liver and biliary tract, as well as diarrhea.
E 951 is a synthetic sweetener. It is actively added to carbonated drinks and chewing gum. Products containing this food additive cause the development of manic depression, attacks of unmotivated anger or, conversely, anxiety, fear and panic.
Knowing “Eshki” by sight, you can take care of your health. No matter how tasty a product is, if it contains dangerous “Es”, you should stay away from it! Bon appetit and be healthy!
