On September 10, 1899, Wolf Grigorievich Messing was born, a hypnotist and clairvoyant, a prototype of Bulgakov’s Woland and an adviser to Hitler, Stalin and Khrushchev. We remembered what still unsolved mysteries the mystery man took with him.
1. Divine sign in childhood.
Born in Poland into a poor Jewish family, Messing was distinguished from childhood by a phenomenal memory, which allowed him to learn without effort. This was noticed by a local rabbi, who advised the devout parents to send the boy to a religious school. Little Wolf really didn’t want this, but one day on the porch of the house he had a vision - someone huge, in black clothes, announced with a trumpet voice that the Lord God himself was telling him to become a priest. Messing submitted to the will of God, but two years later he met that same messenger in the Yeshiba and realized that all this had been arranged by his father. So tritely the first secret of his life was revealed.
2. Prophecy to the Fuhrer.
It is known that back in the late 30s, Messing predicted that the Fuhrer and his Reich would fall if they “went east.” Hitler himself was fond of all kinds of mysticism and even had a court clairvoyant. A huge reward was announced for Messing's capture, and he had to flee to the USSR. Messing himself claimed that he did not know how he managed to predict the future so accurately. According to him, he simply asked himself a specific question, focused on it, and the answer, most often the correct one, arose by itself.
3. Survive in the Soviet Union.
No less a mystery remains how such an alien character in all respects managed not only to survive under Stalin, but even to enjoy his patronage. It is known that Beria demanded that Messing be shot, but the leader said: “We need him.” Researchers believe that the telepath Messing managed to find such the right tone with a person whose thoughts were known to him that he did not feel any psychological pressure or superiority. However, first the Generalissimo gave Messing a test: he had to receive 150 thousand rubles from the bank using a blank sheet of paper - and he succeeded, and the poor cashier suffered a heart attack.
4. Clairvoyance.
After this, Messing was allowed to tour the country with concerts, where, in addition to magic tricks, he demonstrated paranormal miracles. There are hundreds of testimonies of how, with the help of photographs or other personal items, he was able to determine the location and condition of people who were missing or absent from the hall. Once he seemed to be mistaken: after reading a letter brought by his mother, he said that her son had died, and after some time he turned out to be alive. But here, too, there was a wonderful solution: it turned out that his son’s hand hurt, and the letter was written under his dictation by another person who actually died.
5. The mystery of death.
Messing managed to penetrate into the secret of his own death. In 1974, as he was leaving home to go to hospital for surgery, he looked at him sadly and said, “I’ll never see him again.” Western clinics were willing to pay a million dollars for his brain, but the autopsy showed nothing supernatural. And modern science has so far failed to unravel the mystery of the Messing phenomenon. And all his life he struggled with the riddle of whether his gift was a blessing or a curse.
