The unique portrait “Boris Pasternak. Thaw” by the famous Soviet artist Yuri Pimenov will be sold at the Sovcom auction, which will take place on October 25, auction owner Yuri Tyukhtin said in an interview with RIA Novosti .
- The portrait of Boris Pasternak, made by Pimenov, is one of the top lots of the upcoming auction. The work is very interesting, the leitmotif associated with the thaw of Khrushchev’s time is clearly visible,” said Tyukhtin.
He added that the painting “Boris Pasternak. The Thaw,” which was estimated at 7.5-12 million rubles, “is an unusual portrait for Pimenov, it is a thing for the soul.”
“Pimenov loved this work very much and was repeatedly photographed with his students against its background,” he said.
According to the owner of the auction, who himself will begin to hammer at the auction on Saturday, the portrait will most likely end up in a museum collection.
In total, more than 200 lots will be put up for auction at the “Triumph of Socialist Realism” auction, which will be held in the Sovcom auction building on Shchepkina Street, including paintings and graphics from the 1920s by recognized Soviet painters, posters, objects of decorative and applied art made of bronze, earthenware, a unique collection of propaganda porcelain and lacquer boxes.
