A month ago, another full moon ended. This time, because of the insidious luminary in Moscow, 9 people took their own lives at once. Moreover, only two suicides suffered from mental illness - mild schizophrenia. The other day there was an eerily round moon outside the window again. She again tormented the souls of some of us...
Every fiftieth is a somnambulist
Humanity has been studying the Moon for thousands of years. In the 20th century, photographs of the far side of the satellite and soil samples fell into the hands of earthlings, but this did not lift the curtain of mystery about the lunar influence on humanity. In their searches, scientists have gone very far from the ancient thinkers.
Even then it was noticed that this luminary hangs in the sky not only for beauty. “He who practices medicine without taking into account the movements of the stars is a fool,” Hippocrates instructed his students 2,500 years ago. “Do not operate on a part of the body if it is under the influence of the sign through which the Moon is passing.” Both he and his followers took lunar astrology very seriously.
Our ancestors also noticed that those suffering from somnambulism (in common parlance - sleepwalkers) react to the bright light of the full moon. Modern experts agree with this.
“Somnambulism, also known as sleepwalking, is a fairly common phenomenon: about 2 percent of all people on the planet are susceptible to it,” Roman Buzunov, head of the sleep laboratory of the medical center of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, told Interlocutor. - Of course, it is impossible to say that the cause of this disease is the full Moon. But we cannot completely deny its influence. After all, during the full moon, all human reactions intensify. People become nervous and irritable. During this period, chronic diseases manifest themselves to a greater extent. It has been noticed that sleepwalking occurs in children at moments when they are tense or alarmed about something. During a full moon, even a completely healthy person can fall into this state. In adults, sleepwalking can indicate stress, anxiety, and sometimes epilepsy.
So if someone in your family starts wandering around blankly at night when the moon is full, they should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.
“There are many legends associated with sleepwalking,” continues Buzunov. - One of the most common is that all sleepwalkers are crazy. In fact, as a rule, everything is in order with their heads. But it happens that they fall out of windows, mistakenly mistaking them for doors. I read about a pilot who flew a plane. But at the same time he was sleeping. Or another incident that occurred in 1983 in England. One Portsmouth resident was awakened early in the morning by his telephone. His son called from a gas station, which was located 50 kilometers from the city. It turned out that he suddenly woke up and found himself at a gas station. Just at the moment when I was paying for gasoline.
All this is quite possible, but it is still better to keep the sleepwalker away from vehicles, because he is not only awake but also asleep at the same time. On the encephalogram of a somnambulist one can find signs of both conditions. His reactions are inhibited, so even on a half-empty highway he can get into an accident.
The extraordinary dexterity of sleepwalkers - walking along narrow cornices, mind-blowing jumps and other antics that a somnambulist would not even imagine in a normal state - is explained, according to Buzunov, by the fact that during an attack, ancient instincts hidden deep in the subconscious are released in a person. And yet, Roman Vyacheslavovich advises everyone who walks in their sleep not to spare money on window bars, and also not to clutter the rooms with furniture, especially glass. He even advises tying the somnambulist to the bed with a rope, although untying the rope before going somewhere is a piece of cake for a sleepwalker.
Group sleepwalking
A person can be a sleepwalker and not even know it. For example, the medical literature describes a case of group sleepwalking observed in the late 80s in Germany. Mysterious events began to occur in the Breicht family, consisting of a father, mother, two children and a grandmother. Sometimes in the morning they discovered that things and furnishings in the house were located completely differently than the night before. The family was ready to believe in aliens and brownies. But suddenly the mystery was solved. One wonderful night, the Breichts woke up from a terrible roar - their youngest son ran into a chair in the dark. Everyone, including the “alarm clock,” found themselves in the living room having night tea.
Doctors also came to the attention of Russian Moscow State University student Alexander Melnikov, who from time to time at night went to swim in a pond in the park, about a kilometer from home. After bathing, he got dressed and calmly went home to sleep the remaining time in bed. Only he didn’t remember anything about his night outings.
The time of the full moon is a busy time for doctors; on such days, the number “03” is dialed one and a half times more often than usual. The medical teams don't even have time to rest.
“On a full moon, heart attacks, cerebral hemorrhages and epilepsy attacks occur especially often,” the ambulance press service told Interlocutor. “In addition, sometimes the Moon affects the strength of medications and increases their side effects. As a result, the person becomes ill and we receive a new challenge.
God forbid, when the full moon falls on a weekend or holiday - the effect of alcohol in the moonlight becomes completely unpredictable. People who are especially strongly influenced by the earth's satellite are overcome by anxiety and a thirst for activity. And it, as a rule, does not lead to good. But there are more than enough injuries, including severe ones.
Ebbs and flows in the human body
It is known that ebbs and flows exist thanks to the Moon. According to Swedish researcher Peter Tucker, it is this property of the Moon that distorts the behavior of humans, which are more than 80 percent water. On a full moon, when the Moon “turns on” at full power, the water balance in the body is disrupted, and along with it everything else. But so far only astrologers can explain the lunar phenomenon more or less clearly.
“The Moon is not only the closest, but also the celestial body that has the most powerful effect on us,” says astrologer Svetlana Semenova. “Even our daily rhythm is basically lunar, not solar. Our biological clock is set not to 24, but to 24.5-25 hours - this is the length of the lunar day. The Americans found this out not long ago.
In astrology, the Moon is equal in strength to the Sun. She, according to Svetlana, controls the inner world of a person and his subconscious, she is the key to the secrets of every soul, to the world of emotions. And all this breaks out during full moons. At such moments, we are for the Moon like water molecules in the ocean, which she moves from place with such ease.

By the way
The May full moon of last year, coupled with the spring holidays, forced Yaroslavl rescuers to work hard. One day, a 12-year-old boy was “caught” by his own fishing hook; in an apartment on Zavinnaya Street, for no apparent reason, gas started flowing from two burners at once; a paralytic disabled person fell out of his wheelchair and could not open the door to a social worker who came to help with housework. The next day, the abnormal activity subsided: rescuers only had to break down two doors - on Dobrynin and Sverdlov streets. There, two grandmothers did not wait for the ambulance. A day later everything calmed down completely.
What else?
In ancient times, the Moon was considered an inhabited planet; its inhabitants were called Selenites. The ancient Greek philosophers Thales, Anaxagoras and Xenophon were inclined to this opinion. And Diogenes Laertius wrote about the acquaintance of a certain Heraclitus with a selenite who descended to Earth.
In 1609, the first telescopic observations of the Moon led scientists to new thoughts about the Selenites. Galileo argued that some fragments of lunar relief were of artificial origin. In 1610, Johannes Kepler, in his “Discourse with the Starry Messenger,” wrote the following about the Selenites: “They have this method of construction in their custom: they dig huge areas, surrounding them with dug earth, perhaps to obtain moisture from the depths; and this depression represents to them something like an underground city, where the houses are private caves dug in this circular rotation, and in the middle there are fields and pastures.” Here's the lunar crater...
In 1886, the assumption of the habitability of the Moon appeared in occult writings. Helena Blavatsky published The Book of Dzyan, a collection of ancient texts preserved in the Himalayas. It states that the birthplace of humanity is the Moon, and the Earth was colonized later.
Well, some of our contemporaries are trying to colonize the Moon on their own. The right to own its surface was completely legally secured in 1980 by the American Dennis Hope, who took advantage of some gaps in the legislation. And now he is successfully selling off its surface. A plot of just under a square kilometer costs him $99.
