Panaritium is an acute inflammation of the tissues of the finger.
What causes it: as a result of infections due to microtrauma of the finger (prick, crack, abrasion, scratch, etc.). Often the cause of panaritium is hangnails or sloppy manicure.
How it manifests itself: the tissues of the periungual fold most often become inflamed. Redness, swelling and shooting pain develop in the area of the nail fold. Often drops of pus are released from under it. With purulent inflammation, body temperature may rise and health may worsen. A swollen finger cannot bend and perform its usual functions.
How to find out : by characteristic external signs.
Who treats: surgeon.
What to do : in the initial stages of felon, the doctor may prescribe conservative treatment - baths with potassium permanganate, soda or calendula, treatment with antiseptic solutions. When pus appears, treatment is only surgical - opening and draining the purulent cavity. Antibiotics are prescribed if necessary.
Traditional treatment
Alternative treatment is possible only at the initial, non-purulent stage. If there is pus, you should stop self-medicating and immediately go to the doctor!
Finger bath made from celandine decoction
Pour in 1 tsp. crushed celandine herb with two glasses of boiling water and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Use the resulting unstrained decoction as a bath for the sore finger for 15 minutes.
It is recommended to carry out 3-4 procedures per day.
Onion compress
Grate a quarter of a medium onion on a fine grater and place on gauze folded in several layers. The thickness of the onion pulp is approximately 1 cm. Place the compress on your finger, secure with gauze and cover with film on top. Fix everything well again. The duration of the compress is two hours. After the compress, it is recommended to steam your finger in a warm soda bath and apply a fresh compress. This treatment should be carried out twice a day (compress-bath-compress).
