Summer promises to be hot: in central Russia the thermometer has already risen above +30. Maybe there will be more! In such weather, there is literally “neither here nor here” without water.
Don't wait to be thirsty
Drink water before your mouth gets dry. What we call thirst is one of the stages of dehydration for the body, which is best avoided. Doctors recommend focusing on the color of your urine. When there is a lack of fluid in the body, a special antidiuretic hormone is produced: if there is less urine and it is darker than usual, this is a sure sign that you do not have enough water. By the way, sometimes thirst is disguised as a feeling of hunger: you seem to want to eat something, but in reality you want to drink.
Thick Blood
When the body does not receive enough fluid, very unpleasant things happen to it. The blood thickens, and in such a situation the heart has to work harder - this is especially dangerous for people with heart diseases (coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, etc.), arterial hypertension. With atherosclerosis, thickening of the blood can lead to damage to the walls of blood vessels. The main “filters” of the body, the kidneys, also suffer from a lack of fluid: urine becomes concentrated, and this increases the risk of stone formation. But even if a person does not have any serious diseases, the “drought” will affect his well-being: thick blood does not transport oxygen well to tissues and organs, brain nutrition deteriorates - here you have headaches, which hypotension people especially complain about in the heat, lethargy, decreased attention, and much more, which greatly interferes with life.
With or without gas?
We hear this question every time we buy water at kiosks. What to answer depends on tastes and health. Doctors usually advise: it’s better without gas. Carbonated water quenches thirst faster - in hot weather this is a plus, but at the same time it increases appetite - a clear minus. An even bigger disadvantage is that gas water irritates the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach, so it is not recommended to drink it if you have diseases of the digestive tract.
No ice!
Cold water quenches thirst more slowly than water cooled to 19–20 degrees. You can drink a lot of it at once, which is also not very good - even a healthy person can “get drunk” to the point of tachycardia and nausea, and for heart patients and hypertensive patients who need to follow an individual drinking regime, too much water is generally dangerous due to an increase in the volume of circulating blood. Too much also harms the kidneys, adding extra work to them. Optimal summer regimen for healthy people: 100–150 ml of water every 30–40 minutes.
