It is a rare family that does not face the problem of alcoholism - a real evil that destroys the life of not only the drinker, but also his relatives. There are so many distress signals around, calls for help and advice from strangers... But if you have the same problem, you yourself know that it is not easy to overcome it.
My story is similar to many others. My husband and I are one. But the problem is that he is an alcoholic. I thought about leaving many times. I thought, but I couldn’t. And it’s not my husband himself who holds me back, but his alcoholism. After all, we women have enormous sacrifice in us! And I, like millions of others, waste my youth, beauty, freedom for the sake of fighting for my happiness. Because sober, my husband is a wonderful and caring person. But as soon as you drink even a little alcohol, everything changes: tears, aggression... How scary it is: to look into the face of the man you love and see self-hatred in his eyes, red with anger! Watch him take all the money out of the house and drink it away with his alcoholic friends and girlfriends. And even his recovery from the binge does not bring joy to our family: he lies in bed, so helpless, smelling... but so dear that we are always terribly afraid for his life. It turns out: both when he drinks and when he comes out of the binge, I have depression, fear and tears.
All that was left of my youth and beauty were empty glass eyes. And when will you live on your own? My pity for my husband is so great that I myself suffer. I know many women who have left their once beloved alcoholics. Many of them did the right thing.
If a person does not want to cope with his troubles himself, no one can help him. So let him decide. Our men themselves must ask for help, and only then can we help them...
But I want to say one more thing: the mental pain of us, wives and mothers, is much stronger than the hangover of an alcoholic - his pain can be relieved by an IV, but ours is unlikely.
Don't sacrifice your life in vain! Personally, I didn’t isolate myself. I started looking for similar friends in misfortune, and we began to share advice with each other on how to be and what to do. And we were able to do a lot of useful things together.
There are many of us in Russia, friends in misfortune and women of the same destiny. Let's help each other...
