Vatican against cloning

The Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romano criticized the decision of the British authorities to allow experiments with human embryos.

Although the ban on human cloning has not been lifted, embryo cloning to grow human organs for transplantation could open the green light to human cloning experiments, the Vatican says.

Limiting the age of the embryo used for experiments to 14 days also does not seem to the Vatican newspaper to be a way out of the situation. The Catholic Church believes that a person's life begins at conception and continues until death. All this time she should be protected from dangerous experiments.

Moreover, life is given to man by God and cannot be artificially recreated.

Responding to criticism, a representative of the British Ministry of Health said that the human embryo certainly deserves respect, but experiments with it can serve to save human lives. This argument was decisive for the decision of the British authorities.
