The Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church has officially completed its work. However, the celebrations dedicated to the Council will continue for three more days.
Today, a solemn act dedicated to the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ took place in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. In his sermon, Patriarch Alexy II, in particular, said: “It is very gratifying that it is with this anniversary year that many Christians pin real hopes for the revival of the Fatherland. Perhaps, for the first time after a long period of confrontations and disagreements, good signs of consolidation, reconciliation and harmony have appeared in society “This opens up the possibility of overcoming the difficult situation in which our peoples still find themselves. It is clear that the great work of revival can only be accomplished through joint efforts in diligent and conscientious collaboration for the common good.”
In the evening, Patriarch Alexy II will hold an all-night vigil in the church.
On Saturday, the Patriarch will consecrate the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Live television broadcast of this event will be carried out from the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Internet at: http://www.russian-orthodox-church.org.ru
