Yesterday morning in the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo, Tigil district, Koryak Autonomous Okrug (Kamchatka), the story of the escape from custody of a dangerous criminal ended. As Kommersant reported, the day before, 19-year-old Sergei Muravyov killed a police guard and a businessman who allegedly betrayed him to law enforcement agencies, slightly wounded a local airport employee and took two hostages.

Having asked to go to the toilet at about six in the morning, Muravyov suddenly attacked policeman Viktor Shevchenko, who was on duty at the temporary detention facility. Having shot the guard with his pistol, the criminal opened all the cells of the detention center and released the five people held in them to freedom. Having opened the weapons room, Muravyov also took possession of another PM pistol and a Kalashnikov assault rifle with ammunition.
Heading to the house of his enemy, entrepreneur Andrei Kravchuk, whom he suspected of giving evidence against him to the police, Muravyov wounded 43-year-old Sergei Nesterenko, a local airport employee. And 36-year-old Kravchuk was killed on the spot by a long automatic burst at point-blank range right on the threshold of his apartment.
Then, near the village hospital, Muravyov took 41-year-old Galina Sovetnikova and 35-year-old Irina Chuprina hostage. After this, all five prisoners released by Muravyov decided that it was better to surrender to the authorities, and Muravyov himself tried to escape from Ust-Khairyuzov in a stolen minibus. But, having driven ten kilometers from the village, I abandoned the car - it had run out of fuel.
To help the Koryak policemen, already on Tuesday afternoon, a rapid response group consisting of SOBR, OMON and FSB officers flew out by helicopter from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Service dogs were set on the trail of the criminal and the hostages, but they quickly lost him due to the rain. Due to bad weather, search engines were unable to use aircraft.
However, as it turned out, Muravyov circled around the village all day. At about two o'clock in the morning on September 6, he brought the hostages safe and sound back to Ust-Khairyuzovo, where he released them. He himself took refuge in one of the empty houses: dressed in summer clothes, without even the basic skills of a hunter or reindeer herder, the criminal simply did not dare to spend the night in the open air in the rain and cold.
Early in the morning, police discovered Muravyov's hideout and blocked it. After negotiations, in which the fugitive’s mother took part, the criminal came out with his hands raised.
He found himself behind bars for a robbery against two scientists from Japan who came to the neighboring village of Kovran. On August 13, together with two of his peers, Muravyov, threatening with a sawed-off shotgun, took $4.5 thousand from them, but three days later he was arrested.
The regional prosecutor's office has already opened a criminal case against Muravyov on charges of murder, hostage-taking, infliction of grievous bodily harm, theft of weapons and escape. The offender faces punishment up to life imprisonment. But most likely, Muravyov will be sent for compulsory treatment.
Residents of Ust-Khairyuzov say that Sergei Muravyov was mentally unstable since childhood and was even registered at a dispensary. Six months ago, Muravyov was in a car accident, and his mental illness worsened sharply.
