Catholic priest Francisco Xavier Serra, known for his passion for scuba diving, arranged a Bible reading in an underwater cave off the coast of Spain.
He was accompanied on an underwater excursion to a depth of 8 meters by two students who also took part in the reading. It lasted 15 minutes.
Thus, the scuba diver priest wanted to celebrate "the presence of God in sports." This action was part of the continuous Bible reading campaign in 2000, carried out by the Catholic Church of Valencia.
Serra chose a suitable passage for reading - from the book of the prophet Jonah, who was swallowed by a whale and remained in its belly for three days.
The technique of reading underwater was quite complex. The priest and his companions took a deep breath, took off their “mouthpieces” and pronounced words into the water. One of the students admitted that there were problems with acoustics. But we didn't listen as much as we read, he added.
