Theater
This performance is destined to be sad, even if it was originally intended to be cheerful. "Cyrano de Bergerac" will draw a line under a long, 30-year period in the history of the Art Theater, which is usually called Efremov's. Rostand's play is the last thing that Oleg Nikolaevich Efremov planned to stage at his Moscow Art Theater, and, probably, there is some kind of symbol in this that he, the last romantic of the 20th century, undertook to stage precisely this, the most romantic play of the world repertoire, at the end of his life. It was not he who brought the play to the premiere, but Nikolai Skorik, one of the regular Moscow Art Theater directors.
The main role in the play is played by Viktor Gvozditsky - the most subtle, most reverent and most intelligent actor of today's Moscow Art Theater. But his original plan for the role of Cyrano was probably corrected after Efremov’s death. Now he recalls with quiet bitterness how at the last rehearsal of Cyrano, Efremov, interpreting the play, told the actors: “Living is always better than dying.” Now, I wonder how the famous monologue of the fencer in the finale with the death of Cyrano will sound at the premiere: “I know that your strength will break me, / I know that a terrible grave awaits me, / You will defeat me, I confess... But that’s all.” “So I’m fighting, I’m fighting, I’m fighting!” (translated by T. Shchepkina-Kupernik)?

Music
The French cultural center, as a rule, brings good musicians to Moscow - last year we had the opportunity to see this. This season we are waiting for the continuation of the tradition: the “Baroque Ensemble” from Limoges under the direction of Christophe Couen , the successor of the authentic works of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, will play a purely French baroque program - the famous Francois Couperin, the lesser known Antoine Forqueret and Jean-Marie Leclerc.

ballet
In the Bolshoi Theater ballet business now, in connection with the arrival of new management, such leapfrog is going on that all the best that the troupe has achieved over the past couple of seasons is about to be dissolved in the next reforms. Therefore, if you have not yet seen ballets by George Balanchine , it is worth going: they are performed very rarely and it is unknown how long they will remain in the repertoire. It is also unknown, however, how well the troupe will do at the next performance: at the premiere two years ago everything was very strong, and then it fell apart. Nevertheless, “Mozartiana”, “Agon” (to music by Stravinsky) and “Symphony in C Major” (to music by Bizet) are choreography of the highest standard, and some Bolshoi dancers cope with it very well.

Exhibitions
Having visited the exhibition of Lev Bruni at the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, the viewer may receive not so much a strong aesthetic impression as a life lesson. No matter how highly Leo Bruni was valued by his contemporaries, no matter how inspired newspaper critics wrote about him this week, it must be admitted that we have seen exhibitions of more significant and impressive artists. But if you combine viewing a small exhibition with reading the catalog published for the exhibition, you can create a wonderful feeling of communicating with an amazing, intelligent, cultured, honest and noble person. Clear enough to ease the torment of those suffering from misanthropy.
Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val, until October 15.
An exhibition of another good artist and person, the same age as the century, who was executed in 1937, will be shown in the ROSIZO exhibition hall and at the Moscow Arts Center. This is Roman Semashkevich , who worked in different genres and styles, artistically and well.
Moscow Arts Center, ROSIZO from October 3.
There are many people who attend large architectural exhibitions. For some reason, many people like to look at layouts. This time in the Manege the Union of Architects of Russia is opening the exhibition “Results of the Millennium” , it is conceived as a grandiose one. It will definitely be big. There is nothing more to say before the opening.
State Central Exhibition Hall "Manege", from October 2.
The non-art exhibition "Ambiente Russia" with the official and not entirely correct name "International Trade Fair for Decorating Homes and People" will open at the Central House of Artists. The real Ambiente takes place annually in Frankfurt am Main and covers an area of several hectares. Those who visit it are delighted. Marvelous household items - watches, jewelry, lighters, postcards, dishes, lamps, decorative fabrics - little things, without which human life is callous, lean and unprepossessing, captivating the eye with their beauty and ingenuity. Moscow "Ambiente" is a subsidiary that has not yet grown to the size of its parents, so we do not guarantee any special shock, all sorts of nonsense may come out, but there is hope. Fairs of stationery goods, perfumes and cosmetics, and New Year's decorations will also be held here. So lovers of beauty in everyday life can visit.
Central House of Artists, from 5 to 8 October.
