"Millionaire" B. Shaw, director - Vladimir Mirzoev

The director, together with pundits from the “Independent Theater Project”, defined the genre of his performance as “steB.Show”. Actually, Mirzoev had previously staged plays by playwrights Stebgogol, Stebturgenev and StebShakespeare, so Shaw found himself in good company. Vladimir Mirzoev brought with him the artists of the Stanislavsky Theater, who played with him in The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night. In any other production based on Shaw, everything would have turned out to be a sparring match in the elegant English spirit, but the bloodthirsty Mirzoev makes his actors beat each other up for real. During rehearsals, they, poor fellows, almost earned themselves lifelong disabilities (one sprained his back, the other injured his leg), after which, frightened, they complained to the producer. The matter turned out to be so serious that the premiere had to be postponed. Now they will all go on stage insured against accidents, which should somehow console both them and the compassionate spectators.

Another premiere performance that is fatally unlucky. The premiere with Gleb Podgorodinsky (Chatsky) and Yuri Solomin (Famusov) was postponed for a whole year and was finally scheduled for October 26, which we honestly notified everyone about in the last issue of Afisha. However, Alexander Borovsky’s set turned out to be quite complex in its design, and the theater either didn’t have time to paint something or nail it down. One way or another, the Maly Theater postponed the premiere for another week, but they swore that this would be the very, very last time.
