Vladimir Egorov, who until today commanded the Baltic Fleet, went into the second round of elections with Leonid Gorbenko, the current Governor of Kaliningrad. Gorbenko scored about 33 percent of the vote yesterday.

The new governor of the Kaliningrad region is 62 years old. He was born in Moscow, studied at the Frunze Naval School, and he began his career in the Navy as commander of the mine-torpedo unit.
