Gyulyar Sadykh-Zade. The pianist knocks twice

Musical Petersburg is not too "advanced" in terms of modern music. Traditional academicism reliably braided the entire musical field of the city with its fruiting vine, leaving a tiny area for experiments with new music. Composer studies usually unfold in the house of composers as part of the annual festival "Sound paths" . In the evenings, in the famous hall of Montferrand’s mansion, acoustic effects and timbre delights in a strange way contradict the old decor.

This year, the organizers of the "sound routes" decided to combine concerts of composers with creative portraits of celebrities. Both domestic (Sergey Slonim, Edison Denisov), and foreign (Luchano Berio, Moritz Eggert, Arvo Pyart). The contrast of two copyright evenings by the German Maritsa Eggert and Estonian Arvo Pyart became the main intrigue of the next festival of modern music.

The arrival of Moritsa Eggert , composer and pianist, laureate of prestigious awards, was possible thanks to the help of Goethe-Institute, invariably, from year to year supporting the festival. Therefore, the German component in the programs of the festival is especially significant: the St. Petersburg festival was originally conceived as a cast from the famous Darmstad colloquium of new music, which raised the entire top of the modern European avant -garde.

The Clawirabend Eggerta took place in the hall of the Academic Chapel - and you can swear: such a witty and “untied” show that rolled a impulsive, cheerful and sociable German with not German temperament, these strict walls never visible. In the first department, the decent piano opuses of the famous German avant -garde - Henz, Rome, Lahenmann (in the latter, however, besides the rustling of the keyboard and the knock of the pedal, there were no other sounds).

But the present performance began in the second compartment: Eggert set about his own music. And here is what he proposed to the conservative St. Petersburg public. Substracted noises that can be removed from the wooden case and deck of the piano, running around the instrument. Militant Native American Cryngeas, Passionate Crows, Acrobatic Tricks. Eggert played simultaneously with a heel, chin, knee and right hand. The left again knocked on the lid of the piano, repulsing the rhythm. Minimalism, conceptualism and other "Izms", mixed in an unimaginable cocktail of knocks, noise, cotton and piano timbres, gave out a newly open style - "piano in Eggertovsky."

The apotheosis of the performances became 60 plays, each duration per second: they were equipped with eloquent names like “sunset”, “dawn”, “God loves the trinity”. The funny thing is that miniatures exactly corresponded to the names - it turned out to be an almost literal translation of the verbal language into non -verbal. All this kaleidoscope of sounds and names flickered at such a speed that the listener did not even have time to properly evaluate the wit of the composer.

The author’s concert of Arvo Pyurt was dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Estonian composer. Pyart has been living in Germany for 20 years, where he indulges in experiments with his own composer system, gravitating to minimalism. A person is deeply reliable (there is even his own chapel in his house), he has recently writes only cult music - mainly on canonical Orthodox texts. At the concert, in the Small Hall of the Philharmonic, his choral opuses of recent years were performed by the Chamber Choir under the control of Julia Khutoretskaya: “The Women with the Alabaster Box”, a magnificent, seven antiphons, two Slavic psalms and fragments from a huge 110-minute composition of the canon.

After the Eggert show, Pyart, following the traditions of Orthodox music with its severity and simplicity of harmony, tuned in an elevated-meditative way. And such different impressions of the current "sound routes" suggest that among the colossal number of Russian and world premiers held during the days of the festival there are at least a few works that will surely hook in the history of music. Whether it will be repentant canons, or plays in one second - time will tell.
