Premiere. "Venetian Antiquarian" C. Goldoni. Director - Nikolai Sheiko. Chekhov Moscow Art Theater
In fact, the action of Goldoni's play does not take place in Venice at all, and it is called differently. But director Nikolai Sheiko is so fascinated by this free republic of love and death, rocking on the dark waves, that he has been staging plays about Venice almost his entire life. He could not deny himself such weakness this time either. Those who have already seen Valery Leventhal's sets excitedly talk about gondolas crossing the stage, about wonderful pink and gold palaces slowly rising into the air... Starring Nikolai Sheiko's favorite actor Viktor Gvozditsky.

Premiere. "Sandman" by E. Hoffman. Director - Alexander Marin. Theater p/r O. Tabakov
“A thriller of the Age of Enlightenment” is how director Marin wrapped it up when coming up with a subtitle for his play. They know how to captivate the viewer in “Tabakerka”! Actually, this is not the first time that the miraculous transformation of Hoffmann’s story into a chilling thriller has taken place. While in Montreal (and Marin spent more than one year in Canada), the director had already staged “The Sandman” in pure French. They say it was a success. Now we will have to check how it sounds in Russian. Marin chose actor Vitaly Egorov as the hero of his thriller (he played Prince Myshkin a couple of years ago). A pretty 2nd year student at the Moscow Art Theater School, Dasha Moroz, has been invited to play the main female role.

"Room of laughter" by O. Bogaev. Director - Kama Ginkas. Theater directed by O. Tabakov. On the stage of MTYUZ
One has dimples on his cheeks and a childish, sly smile. The other has a hard, prickly look and a reputation as an “unpleasant person.” Oleg Tabakov and Kama Ginkas happily complemented each other in this performance. Tabakov's hero, pensioner Ivan Zhukov, maintains an extensive correspondence. He whiles away his days writing letters to the Queen of England, the President of Russia, the Martians, and even his own bedbugs. The Golden Mask jury rightly decided that this was the best Russian performance of the last season. The only pity is that Tabakov rarely plays him. Detailed reviews

"Othello" by Shakespeare. Director - Evgeniy Marcelli. Vakhtangov Theater
Everything is clear with Desdemona (Anna Dubrovskaya). It was her own fault that she was strangled. There was no need to flirt with all the officers in a row. From the very beginning, the viewer is imbued with sympathy for the strong and non-black body of Othello (Vladimir Simonov), whom jealousy seems to break in half. Sergei Makovetsky plays Iago like an operetta villain, happily mocking theatrical tradition. Detailed reviews

"Pushkin. Duel. Death" by D. Ginka. Director - Kama Ginkas. STRAIGHT
At times this performance looks like a seance. People sit along a long table covered with a white tablecloth and often pronounce the not so cheerful name “Pushkin”. They scratch their tongues, gossip, become vain, show themselves off. But behind the usual bustle and long talk, sometimes, it seems, no, no, and the familiar profile of Alexander Sergeevich flashes.
20th of December.
"Sharashka" based on A. Solzhenitsyn's novel "In the First Circle". Director - Yuri Lyubimov. Taganka Theater
The actors, like pale shadows in Dante’s Inferno, make a ritual prison walk “in the first circle” to the meditative and minimalist music of Vladimir Martynov, and Yuri Petrovich himself, seated at the director’s console, sometimes rises from his seat to give lines for the country’s main director, Comrade Stalin .

"Family Happiness" by L. Tolstoy. Director - Pyotr Fomenko. Workshop of Peter Fomenko
Beethoven rules this small stage space. On the right is a grand piano, on the left is a piano. And two more equally perfect instruments, on the strings of which director Pyotr Fomenko masterfully performs his sad sonata about happiness and love - Ksenia Kutepova (Masha) and Sergei Taramaev (Sergei Mikhailovich). "Labor Bread" by A. Ostrovsky. Director - Alexander Korshunov. Maly Theater branch
A very Russian performance. If you have foreign friends who need to be taken to the theater, I advise you to use “Labor Bread” as a visual aid for studying the mysteries of the Russian soul. Everything is there: anguish, bitterness, drunken hysteria, but the main thing is our poor tenderness and love for each other. Detailed review

"Metamorphosis" by F. Kafka. Director - Valery Fokin. Theater "Satyricon" (small stage)
For this role, Konstantin Raikin once received the Golden Mask. His character was so pitiful and disgusting, and the plasticity so accurately conveyed the movements of the insect that one of my particularly impressionable acquaintances, after the end of the performance, for a long time could not get rid of the feeling that the artistic director of “Satyricon” had small cute tentacles instead of hands.

Premiere. "Rigoletto" by G. Verdi. Directed by Ralf Lengbakka. In the main role - Dmitry Hvorostovsky. "New Opera".
If stars leave New York and London and come to Moscow for a whole month, it means that someone needs it. In this case - to Hvorostovsky himself. The part of the hunchback from Verdi's opera has long attracted the young baritone, who in the West continues to be considered a Siberian bear. But Rigoletto's game is Russian roulette. Either it will enter your repertoire forever, or you will be left without a voice. Forever too. Therefore, Hvorostovsky is going to try it at the New Opera . Even if he doesn’t succeed, Western impresarios still won’t know about it.
