| The search for the most promising applicants among high school students has long been a tradition at many universities. However, if previously only a few large universities were mainly involved in identifying and selecting promising applicants, now the need for this has become obvious for many institutions.
Several state universities - the Center for Jewish Studies and Jewish Civilization ISAA at Moscow State University, the Hebrew University in Moscow (EUM), the Academy. Maimonides, Russian State University for the Humanities, St. Petersburg Jewish Institute and Hebrew University - teamed up and held a three-day meeting with potential students. Its participants were the most capable and erudite schoolchildren from prestigious Jewish and non-Jewish schools, both secular and religious, who were invited to one of the boarding houses near Moscow. Along with Moscow schoolchildren, St. Petersburg residents were invited.
The meeting differed from a regular open house not only in its duration. It was a training seminar. Every day from 9.30 to 15.00, schoolchildren went to classes, and in the evening they had individual consultations with teachers.
“We want,” said EUM rector Alexander Militarev, “to attract schoolchildren to the study of Jewish studies, to make this science at least as attractive as other most prestigious areas of humanities, to help bridge the gap between Jewish universities and high schools " SOFIA BERKOVICH
