Givi can be congratulated on his successful performance in the last issue of “Project: the Nineties”. His letter about Mr. Credo made such a strong impression on the editors of the Russian Journal that I received the first censorship request in many years of cooperation: no longer write about psychoactive substances in the above-mentioned magazine (a different word was said there, but I will now avoid it in just in case). To explain why this was, they told me that they had long wanted to introduce censorship, but not political censorship... it would have to be anti-drug censorship.

In fact, it’s even interesting: write what you want about FEP, write what you want about Gleb Pavlovsky, write what you want about Vladimir Putin, President of the notorious Federation - but about this very thing... well, it’s clear what you’re talking about... - don’t you dare .

This is, of course, a sign of changing times. Another end of the 90s. Because in the mid-90s, only Nezavisimaya Gazeta kicked Falkovsky out of work for a drug interview - and everyone perceived it as complete chaos. And now - right in the middle of this paragraph - I called one youth publication and offered them a translation of a fragment from a cute book. Like, great thing! Sex, drugs, art porn films, everything. They told me: “As much as you want about sex, but nothing about drugs . ” And this, I repeat, is in a well-known youth publication, which at one time became one of the symbols of the 90s.

Honestly, I don’t believe that the reason is the lawlessness of the authorities. The fact is that respectable men in suits, ties and unforgettable faces with eyes like the aforementioned president come to offices and say “Ay-ay-ay!” and threaten with an article of the Criminal Code. No. As always, the reason is that at some point someone becomes scared (“suddenly they will come... times have changed”), someone thinks that “we cannot afford to promote...”, and some people just get bored - today about acid house, tomorrow about Irvine Welsh, the day after tomorrow about Gera, Nastya, Fedya and whatever their names were... As many as possible!

This general sound is “as much as possible!” - and means that the era is over. If we consider the 90s in Russia an attempt to make up for what America had in the 60s and 70s, then now the solid and conservative 80s have arrived. After in Russia the danger of AIDS is realized by society on an emotional level (and this will happen when everyone’s acquaintance dies or is infected), then we will get the 80s in all its glory - including with regard to family values and a decisive “fairy” of free love and various sexual fun. However, by 2017, new shocks await us and many things may still return - but, of course, in a completely new way.

The mechanism for changing the mood of society, as you can see, works completely objectively and independently of the will of the participants. Therefore, I am inclined to consider the decision of the editorial board of RJ not as arbitrariness and censorship, but as a sensitive response to the new spirit of the times. Because the 90s are over - and even I am no longer interested in writing and reading about what was so important when Ptyuch was still a club, and the names of Anufriev and Pepperstein were not at all known to the general public.

Therefore, not a word more about drugs.

But “Project: The Nineties” continues - and you can write your own stories about this irretrievably bygone era.

In case anyone has forgotten, this means “Cultural Guide” . Under this heading I usually announced various events. I somehow abandoned it - which is a pity. Well, I forgot to tell you last time that on Wednesday (that is, yesterday) in “Project O.G.I.” An evening of Slava Kuritsyn will be held, dedicated to the release of his novel “Watercolor for Matador”. At the evening, Slava, however, read chapters from a new novel called, it seems, “Matador on the Moon” (as always, I was late and didn’t hear the title). The novel - at least the first one - turned out to be nostalgic, in the style of Bushnov and Koretsky, a palpation of fiction from the mid-90s. Recommended for study.

So, this time we will announce a Marilyn Manson concert on Friday at the Olimpiysky. I won’t write anything about Manson (my daughter asked, passing by the poster: “What kind of aunt is this?” - and received a lecture about transvestites), but I will cite two letters sent to me by one of my acquaintances, an Orthodox beekeeper, who read in one of the previous issues "We are not there" about deacon Andrei Kuraev . The name has been changed at his request.

Residents of Moscow are contacting you, concerned about the possibility of holding another “cultural” event that advertises violence, perversion and aggression. We ask you not to ignore this event and express your opinion.

In Moscow, on February 23, Defender of the Fatherland Day, a concert by rock singer Marilyn Manson is scheduled to take place at the Olimpiyskiy sports complex. In his "creativity" Manson openly expresses a hostile attitude towards Christianity, the lyrics of his songs are permeated with the "aesthetics" of the collapse of personality, and his concerts are often accompanied by great riots, [censored] consumption of alcohol. His fans, mostly teenagers, have committed crimes more than once, which logically follows from the general spirit of his songs. We believe that the ideology promoted by Manson violates the basic constitutional rights of Russian citizens (including the right to life), offends the feelings of believers and actively counters the efforts of the Russian and capital authorities aimed at stabilizing society and eradicating crime. The actions of the concert organizers, promoting the propaganda of Mr. Manson's ideas, fall, in our opinion, under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

We ask you to consider the possibility of initiating a criminal case regarding the organization of this concert.
