Russian stock market
Today, April 13, activity in Russian markets was extremely low. The total trading volume was only $6.6 million, three times lower than usual. Most investors refrained from making deals, and the market reacted poorly to yesterday's stock rally in the US. The RTS composite index rose by 1.27% to 171.36 points at the beginning of the session and remained virtually unchanged until its closing. Moreover, the RTS index owes its rise to the rapid growth in quotations of Rostelecom's preferred and ordinary shares, which, with a trading volume of $2.8 million, grew by 19.7% and 16%, respectively. In terms of trading volume, Rostelecom's securities almost caught up with the shares of RAO UES of Russia, traditionally the most liquid corporate securities on the Russian market, which, with a volume of concluded transactions of $3.1 million, rose in price by only 1.4%. The reason for the rise in Rostelecom share prices is the optimism of investors, due to yesterday's statements by the company's management that it will maintain a monopoly in the communications market even after the restructuring of the industry. Following this statement, the Troika-Dialog investment company upgraded the rating of Rostelecom securities from “hold” to “buy”.
American stock markets
On April 12, on the eve of the Easter stock market holiday, the American stock market made another jump upward, ending the current week on a positive note. The Dow Jones PMI rose 1.13% to 10,126.94; the S&P 500 rose 1.51% to 1,183.50. The most active growth was observed in the NASDAQ sector, where the index rose by 3.29% to 1961.43 points. Thus, the second week of March is by far the most successful for American markets. During this week, the Nasdaq index jumped 14% up from 1,720.29 (Friday, March 6) to 1961.43 (Thursday, March 12). Many experts perceive the fact that investors did not trust the negative news about the state of the American economy and began to invest money in the hi-tech sector again as the beginning of a new stage of growth. Despite this, many market participants note that fears about the profitability of enterprises have not completely disappeared. This and next weeks, American corporations will publish reports on the results of the first quarter, and the mood of market operators will largely depend on the content of these reports. Still, traders assume that the worst is behind them - they look ahead with caution, but without the same pessimism.
Russian stock market
On April 12, the Russian market showed rather low activity. Against the backdrop of a total trading volume of $16.686 million, the RTS composite index decreased by 1.16% and amounted to 169.21 points. Traders note that on the eve of the closure of American stock exchanges for the Easter holidays, activity on the Russian market was quite low. In the absence of overseas guidelines, bidders do not risk “entering the papers.” The same operators who were bullish in recent days have now taken profits. As a result, the prices of almost all stocks fell. There were few exceptions to this rule: there is still a high demand for preferred shares of RAO UES of Russia, caused by rumors about an increase in the ratio of exchange of preferred shares for ordinary shares. Today these securities have risen in price by 7.6%. The price of YUKOS securities increased slightly (+0.2%). Ordinary shares of RAO UES of Russia decreased by 2.9% with a trading volume of $6.27 million. Shares of LUKOIL fell by 0.5%, Surgutneftegaz - by 0.74%. The price of transactions in Tatneft shares decreased by 2.88%. According to the forecasts of most traders, tomorrow's trading will have similar dynamics. This is partly due to the fact that American exchanges are not working, and the Friday session is always less active, but some experts cite another reason. In their opinion, Russian stock prices have reached the ceiling of the long-term downward trend. Now, due to the struggle between “bulls” and “bears,” the market will fluctuate around the reached level.

Things were different in the “traditional” economy sector. As a result, the Dow Jones index fell by 89.27 points (-0.88%) to 10013.47 points. The S&P 500 index, which includes about 75% of US stocks, decreased by 2.49 points (-0.21%) to 1165.89 points.
