
This year, the volume of financing for supporting Russian compatriots in the near abroad has been increased almost 2 times compared to last year. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktor Khristenko during an Internet press conference.
Khristenko, who heads the Government Commission on compatriots, said that, in particular, last year, more than 300 thousand textbooks were sent to 8 countries of the CIS, almost 14 thousand war veterans in the Commerce countries were provided with Russian periodicals. In addition, about 500 veterans took place rehabilitation procedures in healthcare institutions of the Russian Federation. Also, 500 children from the CIS countries passed wellness procedures, 600 Russian language teachers took advanced training courses in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Voronezh.
According to Khristenko, the goals of work in the field of supporting compatriots together with the leadership of the CIS countries are to create political, socio-economic, cultural conditions for the constant residence of compatriots in the countries of the Commonwealth. According to him, Russia respect the desire of the CIS countries to strengthen sovereignty, but this should not lead to infringement of certain categories of the population.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that in October this year, a congress of compatriots will be held in Moscow, at which approximately 500 representatives of compatriots in the CIS and Baltic are expected.
