The ex-leader of one of the largest criminal groups in Russia was arrested in Berlin

In the German capital, Russian criminal authority Alexander Malyshev was detained, Kommersant reports.

Malyshev was put on the international wanted list in 2000 on suspicion of using fake documents. In March 1998, he received Estonian citizenship, and two years later it turned out that he presented a fake birth certificate to obtain citizenship.

In 1999, Malyshev married a Latin American and took her last name, becoming Alexander Langas Gonzales. Under such an exotic both for the Russian and Estonian, he was put on the international wanted list.

Gonzales was detained on a train that was serving from the German capital. Currently, the Berlin court draws up documents on the transfer of the detained by the Estonian authorities.

According to the Estonian newspaper Eesti EKSPRESS, in the 90s the organized criminal group was one of the most powerful and numerous in St. Petersburg.

Alexander Malyshev and his closest associates were detained by law enforcement agencies in 1992. In 1995, the court sentenced criminal authority to 2.5 years in prison for illegal storage of weapons.
