Europe approved the merger of Hewlett-Packard and Compaq

The European Commission has fully approved the proposal for the merger of American companies Hewlett-Packard and Compaq. The transaction is estimated at $ 22 billion, and as a result, a monster of the computer industry should appear: the united company will control 22-23% of the European market for personal computers and about 47% of the server market and disk information drives.

I must say that observers almost had no doubt that the authorities of the United Europe would approve her. It remains to wait for the decision of American officials and - most importantly - the approval of the shareholders of the company.

And here the head of the NR Karli Fiorin - the main supporter of the merger - came across the fierce resistance of the descendants of the founders of the company.

For example, Walter Hughlett published a statement in which he said that Hewlett-Packard underestimated the costs and overestimated the profitability of the merger. According to Hughlett, the price of the share will not increase by $ 5-9, according to the company. On the contrary, he believes that after the transaction the rally will be cheaper. An analysis of the negative consequences of the transaction took 13 pages from him - this is currently the most detailed criticism represented by opponents of the merger.
