Yesterday, the heads of Rosbank and MFK Bank Evgeny Ivanov and Mikhail Zaitsev held a press conference at which they confirmed information about the start of the process of merging their banks. However, the banks' shareholders have not yet decided in what form this merger will take place.
As Kommersant reported yesterday, the head of Rosbank, Evgeny Ivanov, will become the chairman of the board of the merged bank. Mikhail Zaitsev, who heads the IFC, will become his first deputy, overseeing the investment business. At the same time, the backbone of its management will be the IFC team; he stated that there would be no staff reductions during the merger. However, so far the top managers of Rosbank and the IFC do not know in what form the “consolidation of the banks’ business” will take place. According to Evgeniy Ivanov, there are currently “several forms of merger”, and the optimal one will be proposed to the boards of directors of both banks. This will happen before the banks' shareholder meetings, which will take place in June.
After the merger, Rosbank will become a universal financial institution. At the same time, according to the heads of the merging banks, ideally, management of other financial structures of the Interros holding - insurance and leasing companies, as well as the pension fund - should be concentrated under the Rosbank brand.
It is interesting that in connection with the announcement of the merger of Rosbank and MFK, rumors again appeared among bankers that Alexander Mamut, who left MDM Bank last year, could head the board of directors of Rosbank. Yesterday Evgeny Ivanov said that he knew nothing about this. He, however, did not rule out that the bank’s shareholders are more informed on this issue. Let us recall that at the end of last year Interros also denied the arrival of Mr. Mamut at Rosbank.
However, it is possible that closer to June, when it becomes clear in what form the merger of Rosbank and IFC will take place, the appointment of a new head of the bank’s supervisory board will become a sensation. According to Kommersant's information, Rosbank shareholders want to offer this position to one of the well-known and at the same time fairly wealthy financiers who are able to buy out at least 25% of Rosbank shares. There are not very many such people in Russia, and Alexander Mamut, in principle, fits these criteria. It was not possible to get any comments from him on this matter yesterday: he is on a business trip until the end of the week.
