On the same day, the ATP leadership fined Safin for 5 thousand dollars for the sharp expressions that he allowed himself to the employee of the tournament organizing committee, although the incident did not occur on the court. The reason for the "breakdown" of the Russian tennis player was Mercedes, which, according to the rules of the competition, is provided for personal use of the eight of "sown" athletes for two weeks.

On the way from the airport to the hotel, immediately upon arrival in Miami, Safin damaged his car and asked for the organizers of the tournament to change it for a new one. Having received a refusal, he could not restrain himself. The representative of the ATP refused to report the details of the accident, saying only that Mercedes received minimal damage. He also did not comment on the incident between the Safin and the tournament employee, saying that this is an “internal business”. According to the representative, the punishment is in commissive for what could be applied when the judge was insulting on the court.

In the next circle of the Russian tennis player, a much more serious test awaits. His opponent will be the Australian Llatyon Hughitt - the first racket of the world following last year and the winner of a similar tournament of the Masters series in Indian -Wells in 2002.
