An UN employee was killed in Afghanistan

In the north of Afghanistan, in the city of Mazari-Sharif, Afghan, who worked in the representative office of the food and agricultural organization of the UN (FAO), was killed on Wednesday. This was reported on Thursday in the Afghan capital of UN representatives, ITAR-TASS reports.

According to the received information, three militants broke into the house of Shah Sayed and shot him point -blank. The motives of the crime are established, however, the version of robbery is excluded, since nothing was stolen from the house. The special representative of the UN Secretary General in Afghanistan Laharchimi called this incident a terrible tragedy. He emphasized that this is not the first case of an attack on civilians who cooperate in Afghanistan with international organizations.

In January, in the north of the country, three Afghan servants were killed by humanitarian assistance. In February, unknown persons stole an employee of a charity organization who has not yet been found. The other day, the anonymous representative of the terrorist organization of Osama Ben Laden told the Arab newspaper Al Hayat that al-Qaeda militants are planning in Afghanistan a series of terrorist attacks against foreigners, in particular military personnel, as well as against the Afghans who cooperate with them.

Meanwhile, Russia will officially open the Consulate General in the Afghan city of Mazari-Sharif until the summer of this year. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Alexander Losyukov, who oversees relations with the countries of Asia.

In the "Northern capital" of Afghanistan, as Mazari-Sharif is also called, he noted, recently visited the advanced group of diplomats of the Ministry, which introduced a detailed report. In addition, the city is regularly visited by employees of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan.

According to him, the main obstacle is organizational difficulties. The city is so much destroyed that it is difficult to find a building suitable for placing a diplomatic mission. Alexander Losyukov called all other problems, including ensuring the safety of Russians in Mazari-Sharif, "completely solved." He said, in particular, that the Afghan authorities promised to create all the conditions for the safe work and life of Russian diplomatic people. “We plan to officially open the consulting general until the end of May,” the deputy minister said.

The Russian Consulate General in Mazari-Sharif was closed in May 1997 as a result of the capture of the city of Taliban by the troops. To date, the work of the consulate of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran has already resumed there.
