The leadership of the Lloyd's London Insurance Office announced that on September 11, the company's financial condition was seriously shared by the financial condition of the company: the losses in 2001 amounted to nearly 3.11 billion pounds ($ 4.35 billion).
The main reason, according to Lloyd's analysts, is the requirements for compensation for damage from the victims of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. The total amount for which they claim is currently estimated at almost 3 billion dollars, while according to the initial forecasts it was supposed to be no more than 2 billion.
The Air Force notes that Lloyd's over the past three years has been steadily in losses: the bankruptcy of Internet companies in 1999 and 2000, storms in France and earthquakes in Asia affected.
The Executive Director of Lloyd's Nick Preteadzhon said that this year he expects the company to return to the number of profitable ones, while pointing to an “extremely favorable” situation in the last few weeks. It is difficult to disagree with this: recently, world insurers tirelessly raised tariffs for their services. Wall Street Journal gives an example a small Bennett Steel company, whose costs for insurance increased by 50-120% depending on the type of service.
On the other hand, these requirements are partly legitimate. The events of September 11 led to so many statements about insurance payments that insurers did not see for the entire three -century history of the existence of this business: total losses are estimated at $ 50 billion, and Lloyd's, in addition, paid money last year and in connection with the explosion of a chemical plant in Toulouse, as well as with tropical storms that collapsed on the eastern coasts USA.
