The Society of the Blind USA sued the government with a demand to change the form of dollar banknotes so that the blind could recognize their dignity to the touch. The society proposes to produce bills of different sizes or make corrugated inscriptions on banknotes. The lawsuit was filed on the eve of one of Washington’s ships, reports New York Post .
The blind people believe that the same amount of current bills, which does not allow distinguishing one -dollar banknote from a hundred -dollar, violates their civil rights. Interestingly, the possibility of deception by sellers, the blind do not complain about the possibility of deception.
According to lawyer Jeffrey Lovitsky, shops behave honestly in relation to blind customers, and cases of fraud are extremely rare. The lawyer says that the blind people are often humiliated, asking passers to help them determine the dignity of a particular bill. A change in the shape of the bills will give the blind great independence, says Lovitsky.
