American scientists have created an artificial virus √ an exact copy of the pathogen of polio, reports Echo of Moscow . For the first time since the origin of life on Earth, the biological object was created from inanimate matter.
Taking advantage of the fact that a fairly simple genome of polio virus is completely deciphered, a group of researchers led by Professor Echard Uimmer from New York University accurately copied its DNA from a natural model. The artificially collected sequence of nucleotides was then placed in a solution, a similar cell cytoplasm in chemical composition.
After that, the researchers, to prove the activity of the "man -made" virus, infected them with mice, and the animals showed classic symptoms of poliomyelitis.
Thus, researchers note, world science came close to the creation of artificial biological life.
