President of Bashkortostan is going to abolish the post of president

The President of Bashkortostan Murtaza Rakhimov spoke out for the abolition of the presidential position and the introduction of a parliamentary form of power in this republic. With such a proposal, he made on Thursday a solemn meeting in Ufa dedicated to the Day of the Republic.

Rakhimov argued his position by the need to preserve the interethnic world and consent in Bashkortostan, where the Russians make up about half the population, Tatars - about a third, and Bashkirs - a quarter of the residents of the republic.

The presidential election in the multinational republic should not be a "apple of discord", says the Bashkir leader.

Meanwhile, as it became known to Interfax from sources close to the leadership of Bashkortostan, Rakhimov shared his thoughts and plans for this with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, the current leader of Bashkortostan has the right to nominate for a third term in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court of Russia. The elections of the President of the Republic are scheduled for June 2003.

“Everything goes to the fact that there should be one president in Russia, and the“ great initiator ”of the Bashkir leader can be the first step towards the gradual transition of the national republics to the parliamentary form of government,” the director of the integration center, Andrei Yanik, commented on the initiative of the Rakhimov initiative.

In his opinion, "the most optimal is the formula in which the highest authority in the subject of the Federation is the legislative body, and the prime minister - the elected head of the republic - is not a political, but an economic figure."
